Marina Cook – My Story

Marina’s parents were both from Italy and they moved to Australia after the war.  They met in Australia. Dad was a fitter and Mum worked in Service.  They were a hard working couple and lived in Leichhardt. Marina has 2two brothers – one in Sydney and the other in the Gold Coast.

Marina always wanted to be a teacher and has taught in mainstream schools and also special need schools.

Marina’s attraction to the Church led to some interesting experiences including an airport run-in and a mission tour to Kenya where some confronting details and experiences that will not be included in the summary.

Marina moved to Leeton after she saw an ad for a teacher at Narrandera Infants. And enjoyed the experience of living in the country.

Her daughter married an American and lived in California and Marina experienced her first winter Christmas and noticed many subtle differences between Australia and America. Her daughter and family came back to Australia during Covid  and moved to Leeton 4 years ago.  They bought the shared property in Leeton and are now building an extension for Marina. Her grandchildren are now 11, 8 and 4.

President Jennifer thanked Marina for her presentation and emphasized how welcome she is as a member of our club.

Sergeant Geoff

Geoff began by initiating an impromptu sweepstake and followed this by exposing our poor understanding of the Rotary Down Under.

Andrew won the Raffle and Eric won the Sweep.

Market Day

Thank you to all who helped out on the day.  The weather was perfect and there were more stalls, a fair crowd and we managed to make over $600.  Maybe Dan’s boxes contributed more than the BBQ but the lure of the food maybe drew in some customers.

We don’t want you to go
