Behind the Badge

This week our very own Jennifer had us enthralled in her tales of adventure, or what she calls her life’s journey. Jennifer packed so much into her presentation the only way to recap it is in bullet points.

Grew up and educated in Foster South Gippsland.
Trained as a Radiographer at Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Joined Northern Territory Aerial Medical service based in Darwin.
Travelled to mission stations, mining camps doing TB survey.
Ran Alice Springs department before returning to Melbourne.
Started learning to fly with first pay packet.
Gained unrestricted Pilots Licence and had 2 girls.

Started building hours towards Commercial Pilots Licence on Bristol Freighters doing overnight freight to Tasmania, King and Flinders Islands.
Moved to Fiji to live and had another daughter.
Continued studying for Commercial Licence finally obtained in Melbourne.
Moved to Brunei, a Moslem Malay Monarchy.
Rich economy from oil revenue.
Worked on New Istana project as radiographer. 3,000 workers on site, with small medical facility.
Continued studying towards and gained Instructor Rating.

Joined Royal Brunei Flying Club doing charters and training.
Stories of various charters and ethnic experiences.
Learnt to sail, team racing in Lasers and 470’s lead to International keel boat races.
3 years in South China Sea series, Raja Muda series, and Kings Cup series.
Bought vessel in Singapore and sailed to Brunei.
Later bought vessel in Australia and sailed to Brunei.
Learnt to scuba dive, training to Advanced instructor.
Discovered wrecks, underwater caves and joined film crews.

Jennifer will present part 2 of her story the ‘Return to Australia’ on another night however I think it only fitting to add the following, which can be said is a great achievement and needs to be noted by all.

2019 Australia Day Honours

The 2019 Australia Day Honours are appointments to various orders and honours to recognise and reward good works by Australian citizens. The list was announced on 26 January 2019 by the Governor General of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove.

SunRice Festival Ambassador Funding

Brian and Dan represented the Club on Wednesday evening to receive the donation following Brian’s successful application for funds raised by SunRice Festival Ambassadors. Donation received will be used to landscape Leeton Showground Gate project. Riddle Answer: “Oops!”

Whats for Dinner?

Chef Matt treated us to smoked Murray Cod this week. The upside everyone really enjoyed their meal and cleaned up their plates; the downside there were no scraps for the chickens. Dessert with fresh fruit was lovely although the icing sugar made a bit of a mess.

Sergeant Andrew

This week Sergeant Andrew took us back road travelling and told us where to go even if we didn’t know where he was taking us with have you ever been to ‘xxxx’. The response ‘no, where is that?’ After a couple more have you ever been to ‘xxxx’ and ‘no, where is that?’ members worked out where he was talking about.
