Art Deco Weekend
Art Deco Festival

On Saturday 8 July 2023, as part of the Art Deco Festival, on our Rotary Club participated by holding a food stall in Mountford Park selling corn chowder, minestrone soup, hot dogs and hamburgers.

With the cold weather many patrons reached out for a cup of Dan’s corn chowder which proved so popular we sold out.Minestrone with beef or vegetarian options available were not to be outdone, were also extremely popular, of course both were served with fresh crusty bread. Hot dogs with the option of cheese and onion, proved they were still family favorites. And of course who could go past the good ole hamburger which was not going begging.

The team looked fantastic and we all worked like a fine tuned machine.Thank you who contributed to the day, I am sure we did well as well as feeding the masses by giving them something warm and delicious to have for lunch on a cold and winding day, wait you might say a winters day.

Social Casual Event

Acting President Laurie welcomed everyone to a social night as there would be no guest presenter tonight, it would be the perfect chance to catch up and enjoy some fellowship. No guest speaker equals no formal agenda which equates to a very relaxed casual social evening.

Of course there was the dinner and few drinks including the traditional story or two being told, as well as the compulsory joke, there has to be at least one.

Interesting fact, during the evening there seemed to be a considerable amount of discussion surrounding Nick’s attire to the Changeover Dinner as MC.Why is this a thing, I can hear those cogs turning, because the topic was discussed by the men in the room, there were no women involved.

During the evening it was recommended that the Club spends some of the funds raised on itself and invest in a bay marie food warmer for the BBQ trailer. This suggestion received overwhelming support from members. It was considered a great idea which would not only be beneficial for the Club, it added to food hygiene and the efficiency of the BBQ trailer. It will be added to the agenda to be discussed at the next Board Meeting.

Carmel’s Brain Teaser x 2

Couple short brain teasers this week, hopefully won’t take too long to work out the answers.
  1. A red house is made from red bricks. A blue house is made from blue bricks. A yellow house is made from yellow bricks. What is a green house made from?
  1. Why is the letter F like death?

Sergeant’s Session

Apparently, Sergeant Greg not waiting with baited breath to conduct the Sergeant’s session despite his introduction.  Greg did say it is amazing what you find out when you walk around and ask.  Unfortunately some of us didn’t receive the memos for the evening and were not aware that there was a number of competitions running.  Two of them included who could wear the most jackets on the evening, under the guise that it was cold, or who could/would claim the honour of being the first member paid up for the year.

Carmel’s Optical Illusion Photo

Witch’s tower?

Witch’s tower?  Or wooden stairwell?  Viewed from the ground floor, the wooden planks of this staircase and the landing roofs create an optical illusion photo that messes with your eyes, seeming to go up and up.  How many stories can you see?

Leeton Farmers Market

The weather for last week’s Farmers and Makers Markets may not have been the best, but that didn’t stop the crowds, who thankfully were hungry.  It may have something to do with the cold making people hungry or maybe it is just the good food, and smiling faces of the Rotarians that draws the customers in, I think maybe the later.  Whatever it is last week’s markets were a great success and thanks to all who assisted in any way towards the event.

Hanna Shows They How It Is Done

Last week Hanna attended the Inner Wheel Changeover with the Wades.  Whilst the women were meeting the men, including Hanna, were exploring and keeping themselves amused at the local gym.  The comment was made that Hanna took it upon herself to do a bit of punching of the bag and trying out some of the equipment, as someone said, they didn’t think the over 70’s in the group would not, so Hanna showed them how it was done and how the equipment worked.  If the photos are anything to go by Hanna may have enjoyed herself as much as the guys enjoyed her company.  Hanna as always smiling and willing to chat, some might even say ‘a pleasant breath of fresh air’.
