LSC Economic and Community Development

Born and breed Barellan resident Michelle Evans attended our weekly gathering and gave us an insight into her position as Economic and Community Development Manager with Leeton Shire Council. After many years in to banking sector, mother of four, Michelle made the move to the local government sector when she accepted the position.

Grow Our Own

Promoting Leeton Shire Council as a great place to work. The video has been/will be distributed to regional schools to let students that university is not the only career path available to them.

Vance Estate Stage 3 Expansion

Economic Strategy

Consulted with key stakeholders for a new Economic Development Strategic Plan (Priority Actions, Economic Development and Community Development).

Housing Strategy

Adopted in November 2021– including Affordable Housing and Seasonal Workers

WR Connect

Western Riverina Freight Intermodal

Assisting with the Business Case - moving forward with the Regional Economic Impact assessment for Gate 4 being submitted.

Leeton Connect Hub

The initial working party was established in 2021. Currently in the process of Website Design.

Carmel’s Brain Teasers

All right you smarties, I am lead to believe that some of my ‘riddle of the week’ were getting a bit too easy so I have upped my game and introduced my brain teaser of the week. See how easy these are!

I left my campsite and hiked south for 3 miles.

Then I turned east and hiked for 3 miles.

I then turned north and hiked for 3 miles,

At which time I came upon a bear inside my tent eating my food!

What colour was the bear?

Director’s Roundup

Belle of the Ball – Friday 19^th August – Soldiers Club Leeton, tickets available from Club. Contact Bruer if you are able to help with arrangements and on practice nights (26 July and 16 August).
Possible Club Projects – President Graeme provided members with some of the possible projects that have been suggested that the Club could undertake.
RFCS BBQ (Drought Resilience) – Thursday 11th August at Yanco Ag Institte.
Answer: White. The only place you can hike 3 miles south, then east for 3 miles, then north for 3 miles and end up back at your starting point is the North Pole. Polar bears are the only bears that live at the North Pole, and they are white.
Farmers Market – Saturday 6^th August – Mountford Park.
2022/2023 Subs - $300 per annum. Invoices will be issued soon. Preferred payment method is direct transfer into Rotary bank account, details of which will be on invoice.
Leeton Showground Managees Committee – Thank you letter received for all the work the Club contributed towards the Showground gate refurbishment which has not gone unnoticed by locals.
Exchange Students – Outgoing student Maggie currently completing training prior to departing for Denmark early next year. No arrival date for incoming student Hannah from Brazil.
Rotary Foundation Funds – grant application successful to be used to hold a RFCS seminar.

Chef Matt served Acqua Pazza this week (translation ‘crazy water’) or what we would call seafood soup with mushrooms. Not sure if there is a hidden meaning there Matt but it was delicious as was the fish patty.

Sergeant George

A sterling job by Sergeant George this week, however the tables were turned back onto him when a couple of members fined the Sergeant for not eating his vegetables. George ‘s favourite colour is green and what colour were the vegetables? Behold the proof.
