Sergeant Alan (and bag-man Bill)
Alan initiated a unique session where he asked members to pay up to report on their Christmas. Probably it was not too surprising that most reported on family times, including the birth of grand- and great-grandchildren. Our President, however, was released from hospital only to have to search for somewhere to stay over Christmas. While spending some time alone she was presented with a large prawn meal to lighten her day.
Alan, himself, reported on his appropriate Christmas receipt of two Eclectic Parrots. These parrots, from the North of Australia are unusual in that males are always green and females always red.
The raffle was won by Laurie (Yeah!!!!).

Australia Day Breakfast
It was a very early start for our members as we assembled for another catering job for Australia Day. While the weather forecast was for a very hot day, the morning in the park was not so hot and we catered for many Leeton citizens and guests on the day.
Thank you to those who turned up to help on the day. Once again, we did ourselves proud on the day with our enthusiastic volunteering. It was a real team effort and provided a real service to our community.

Brian Munro – Leeton Citizen of the Year
Brian was named Leeton Citizen of the Year at the Australia Day Presentation on Monday. This was a very fitting reward for his long-term contribution to the Leeton community. It particularly honoured his contribution through initiating and then promoting the ‘Stories of Resilience Breakfast’ program. This is a unique and very successful program, begun in Leeton and now being copied in other locations.
Congratulations, Brian. A well-deserved award and we are really delighted that the award has recognized your contribution through Rotary.

A Circus Tale
A husband and wife who worked for the circus went to an adoption agency. Social workers there raised doubts about their suitability. The couple produced photos of their 50-foot motor home, which was clean, well maintained and equipped with a beautiful bedroom for the child. The social workers raised concerns about the education a child would receive while in the couple's care. "We've arranged for a full-time tutor who will teach the child all the usual subjects along with French, Mandarin and computer skills." The social workers expressed concern about a child being raised in a circus environment. "Our nanny is a certified expert in paediatric care, welfare, and diet. In addition, there are 17 other children who travel with their circus parents." The social workers were finally satisfied. They asked, "What age child are you hoping to adopt?" "It doesn't really matter, as long as the kid fits into the cannon."
