Peter White – Make Me Mobile

Peter now hails from Albury and he wanted to share how he decided to start Make Me Mobile.

He first wanted us to participate in an imagine task.  First, to close our eyes and imagine that we, all of a sudden, had no feeling in fingers, toes, legs, arms and not be able to move.  Imagine how this would impact on our lives.  To be wheelchair bound and dependent on others for all our daily functions.  Imagine how this would feel but also how it would impact all those around us.  Not be able to be independent – to drive; to go anywhere when we wished; to go to a restaurant; to cook meals. Probably no longer able to enter most buildings. Probably unable to work and to be reliant on a pension.

This is the reality for Peter’s son, Lachlan.  He received a diagnosis at 4 y.o. that, due to his illness, he would most likely be dead by 18 y.o. He walked until he was 13 but then slipped in the shower and was told that he was unlikely to walk again, but he did walk 3 months later for another 5 years.  In 2018 he fell again and has not walked since that time.

Imagine the difference for the family (and others in a similar position) if they were able to get a specialized vehicle which is adapted for such people.  The NDIS will pay for a vehicle conversion if a suitable vehicle can be found but it must be less that 2 y.o. and less than 50,000 km.

The objective of Make Me Mobile is to raise funds to provide vehicles for such people.  They have a number of fund-raising activities and have so far raised $28,000 towards the $55,000 for the first vehicle. One fund raising activity is ‘Cans for Vans’.

One example in Leeton is Kirsty Caker whose son, Mason Watts (11) has Hydrocephalus and needs such help.

Peter and Jake were thanked by President Peter.

Sergeants Session Matt Rhodes

Yet another good session delivered by Matt.  It seems a shame that Dan was stung twice (first by a paper wasp and then by Matt). Len was fined because he needs to aspire to emulate the 91 year old pharmacist. The editor did not escape his lousy computer skills (Matt got 4 editions of the bulletin). Alan’s car is nearly roadworthy – it will be cheaper when he avoids the fines by getting it on the road. Amongst others, Barry was fined for the paper plate chase.

Rafflle winner was Dan.

The Racing Snail + Others

Paddy's racing snail is not winning races anymore. So, he decided to take its shell off to reduce its weight and make him more aerodynamic. It didn't work, if anything it made him more sluggish.
Six Dumb Questions Real Lawyers Asked In Court
“How many times have you committed suicide?”
“Were you alone or by yourself?”
“Was it you or your brother who was killed?”
“Without saying anything, tell the jury what you did next.”
“Was that the same nose you broke as a child?”
“Now, doctor, isn’t it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesn’t know about it until the next morning?”
