District and International News

Help us Eliminate Malaria

In 2019, malaria infected 229 Million and killed 409,000 with 67% of deaths in children under five years old. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has challenged the World to achieve malaria elimination targets by 2030. Thus, with 10 years to go, it was exciting news that the Rotary International Program of Scale (PoS) grant of USD2M was awarded for malaria elimination in Zambia. The Grant project is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Federal Way, Washington, USA, in partnership with Malaria Partners Zambia, Malaria Partners International (previously, Rotarian Malaria Partners), and many other key partners. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and World Vision USA will co-fund the program with $2 million from each organisation, bringing the total funding to $6 million.
CAN WE END MALARIA? YES. Many countries have achieved malaria elimination. This year, El Salvador received WHO malaria elimination certification.
Locally, RAM  ( Rotarians Against Malaria ) AUSTRALIA is continuing to seek funding opportunities via grants and fund raising efforts in our 19 Rotary Districts. All of us must reach out to Rotarians in our District, and gain support for our work to end malaria in our partner countries.
