Fossil Hunting, Cave Mapping, and Other Stories of Exploration

Meeting Time and Location:  Thursday, October 10th at 7:30 am at Riverbend Country Club.

Wear your hard hat this morning as Dennis Drum shares stories of his adventures as a fossil hunter, cave mapper, and rock enthusiast.  He will bring samples of his fossil collection to share.

Here is a teaser…Dennis helped to explore and map the world’s largest cave system at 150 miles long.  He also led the compilation of the Apollo 17 Lunar map used by the Astronauts during their moonwalk.

Dennis grew up with a passion for exploring caves, hiking through rock quarries, and collecting fossils.  He turned these interests into a career when he accepted a job as a Cartographer-Photogrammetrist with the Air Force’s mapping agency in 1967.  He went on to work for the Defense Mapping Agency, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and Booz Allen Hamilton.

Dennis is married to Mary Drum, our current Assistant District Governor for Rotary 7610.  Together, Dennis and Mary enjoy performing 18th Century English Country Dancing.
