Local Area Rotary Clubs for Meeting Make-ups 2015-02-04 00:00:00Z 0

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise! This website contains information for members and visitors on our club's activities, events, meetings and programs. It's where you can find our club member directory, eBulletins, where and when other local Rotary clubs meet, and links to our District website and Rotary International.

We meet each Friday for breakfast, fellowship, club business, and an informative and interesting presentation from a guest speaker. We have 50 plus members with a variety of professional and managerial backgrounds. Founded in 1989, our club was the first in northern Nevada to charter with women and paved the way for the first female President in our District. Reno Sunrise, in turn, has in recent years chartered the Reno Rotaract club (18-30 year olds) and a new generations club now known as the Rotary Club of Reno, Midtown. We are community and youth service oriented, and give our time and dollars to make a positive impact in the community and the world.

A partial list of our service activities includes volunteer and/or financial support for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, Rotary Youth Exchange, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, the Middle School Leadership Experience, Rotary speech and music contests, middle school career coaching, Rotary Group Study Exchange, and the Rotary International End Polio Now program. We also are Partners in Education with Virginia Palmer Elementary School in the economically challenged Sun Valley area, and help with a number of programs including Read to Succeed, Back to School Shopping, Happy Feet athletic shoes, holiday season Angel Tree, Challenger Learning Center science program, and a number of playground enhancement projects.

Our major fund raiser is Edible Pedal 100 TM held each September in the Washoe Valley that consists of 10, 50 and 100 bicycle rides. This past year we had over 1,000 riders from Nevada and California. A portion of the net proceeds is contributed to Urban Roots Garden Classrooms, culinary scholarships at a number of local high schools, and to various other event support organizations.

We have a lively and dedicated membership, and are always looking for new qualified members to help us make a difference and have fun. Visitors to meetings are always welcome, so if you're up and about early on a Friday morning please stop by.

Attendance is important to you and to the Club in meeting attendance requirements. Don't forget you need to attend or make up at least 50% of club regular meetings in each half of the year (rolling six months), and attend at least 30% of the club's meetings in each half of the year. Credit can also be received for Rotary committee work and other official Rotary functions, and you can do make-ups online. Please notify our Club Secretary or report your make-up on our club website to receive credit.
