Another year, another Ribfest completed!

Another Friday, another Rotary meeting!

The troops were tired but you wouldn't know it based on the repartee during last meeting!

I'm missing my notes for the meetings before, but I do have lots of pictures!

Jim Reynolds gets comfortable during Terry-Lynn Stone's invocation!

A new Rotary International President, a new Rotary International banner! This year's theme is "Making a Difference"

No idea whatsoever!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

- In addition to the events above, we are also trying to organize the annual Daybreak Derailleurs bike trip! Dan Miller is organizing in lieu of Dan Sulz (apparently taking a trip to Sparta to drink mudslides or something?) If you check your email this afternoon, it sounds like we are looking at October 14/15 and staying at Myra Ranch Resort, but only if folks respond fast!

FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING GOOD, BRING BACK YOUR RAFFLE TICKETS AND MONEY TO TERRY-LYNN STONE TOMORROW!!!!

- Terry-Lynn also updated us on the progress of Days for Girls - thanks in part to our club and our personal contributions, Terry-Lynn and her team have provided 206 completed kits, providing 768 YEARS of uninterrupted school time for girls in developing countries! Well done!

- beer, butter, wine and pop sale! Darren Wilkinson has the leftovers from Ribfest for sale at blowout prices! Contact Darren to check stock, but he started with Bud Light, Bud Lime, Bud Radler, Palm Bay Ice Tea, Giddy Up White, Mill Street, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Brisk, 7 Up and water!

MEMBER BIRTHDAYS/SPOUSE BIRTHDAYS / ANNIVERSARIES

Just do a little copy-pasta here...

NEWS/WEATHER/SPORTS

Morgan shared the Top Ten Complaints overheard from Rotarians at Ribfest 2017, and told us about the new aquatic climbing wall at the Westsyde Pool. Fred Legace expressed interest in learning how the pool's climbing wall works, but Rob Phillips told him to just work on climbing out of the pool!

BUSINESS

Tony noted how the US has been divisional, but their markets have been doing well. Canada has been flat for the year. And those Tiffany diamonds you bought at Costco might actually be Kirklands!

Brad also covered for Tony again, at the time on his way to Lacrosse provincials!

AUGUST 4th PROGRAM - KAMLOOPS INNOVATION CENTER AND PORTER

Our guest speaker, Jonathan Natavio, running late, we got glimpse into just what Kamloops Innovation does in the meantime!

Once Jonathan arrived, he told us about his company Porter, winner of the Built In Kamloops entrepreneurship contest! Porter helps you outsource all kinds of menial task - they vet and match qualified contractors to fulfill all sorts of tasks - from shopping and dog walking to special requests! As winner of the contest, Porter will be expanding into Kamloops! Keep them in mind....

AUGUST 18TH - FRIENDLY FRIDAY

No speaker, so we enjoyed each other's company (mostly).

HAPPY BUCKS

Ribfest dominated, still fresh in everyone's minds....

  • lots of thanks all around, especially to those who work the whole weekend. We could not do it without you.
  • Pitstop has started a new tradition - they squirrel away all the ribs they receive during the year through the food recovery program, and then put on a rib dinner the Sunday of Ribfest for their clients!
  • Jim Anderson was prompted to pay for some gas he 'borrowed' during Ribfest... not clear if he actually did...
  • Some apologies and near-apologies made - Fred Legace to Jim Anderson: "I shouldn't have said it just that way"
  • Jim Reynolds was proud of the Broncos that helped him in the reefer trucks - stayed till the job was done and then headed off to practice!
  • First timers, including Bev and Ken Warner, Harley Rowsome and Alec Hermansson happy for the experience!
Bev and Ken were also celebrating their anniversary at the meeting, and sat together for a change! Ken paid tribute to Bev during happy bucks. Bev instead talked about Ribfest! Kent Wong railroaded both of them into paying anniversary bucks into the pot!

Harly is off to Ireland!

Derek was heading to Lisa and Bryce's for a sleep over... so the afternoon?

Well, that's your newsletter for this month... such as it is! Hopefully back to regular updates next week!
