Meeting Content and Reports
Collie Rotary Club President, Neil Martin facilitated the Collie representatives panel at the Leadership WA dinner function.
 
 
The panel comprised, Silvia Miles - Collie District Hospital, Breanna Harrison-Brown - Youth Magic Moments representing Collie youth, Dominic Camera - Principal Collie Senior High School, Glyn Yates, President of the Collie Chamber of Commerce and Deputy President of the Collie Shire, Wayne Sanford Collie Shire President, and Geoff Blackford Coal Industry Representative.
 
A number of questions were fielded and responded by the panel, some of the topics are listed here;
  • Magic Moments explanation
  • Bendigo Bank Community support for projects
  • Collie coal image and transition to other industries
  • Community resilience
  • Collie History and current attractions and assets
  • Youth support and attraction to return to Collie
  • Sustainability of medical services and a new hospital extension planned
  • Aged care facility utilisation, costs and limits on federal funding
  • Refugee families and Collie's history of immigration
  • Community spirit and sense of identity, vision, strategy and hope
  • What does Rotary do? Responded by President Neil
  • Vocational support and exchange students
  • Education in Collie, high achievements and retention
  • Improving migrant intake and the China Free Trade agreement
  • Indigenous engagement, education, local enterprise and representation
 
Ruby McLennan of the Leadership WA group, after fining Leadership WA members in a process called "Steves", thanked the panel and Collie Rotary for facilitating this meeting, followed by Glyn Yates who gave the panel closing comments and thanked the Leadership WA group for coming to Collie and taking an interest in our community.
 
Dinner followed and members mingled to enjoy the fellowship and success of the evening.
Harry reported the materials are ready to install and needs volunteers for this Sunday at 9AM. Robyn, Geoff, Martin and Rod indicated they were avaialble.
