Footpath Project - Heritage Group Park Benches

The Collie Heritage Group had been asked by Collie Rotary to make a set of park benches for the Collie to Allanson footpath project. Barry Scoffern has donated $1000 worth of jarrah timber and the group have so far made two benches with another four under construction.

Men's Shed is now open

John reported the Collie Men's Shed is now open. The days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9AM until 1pm.

RYPEN Applications Close

As the deadline for applications is tomorrow, John Bylund reported only one candidate has applied unless he receives others by the deadline. One misconception circulating is a supposed ban on bringing mobile phones, and for some this is a deterrent. Mobile phones can be taken but they are not allowed to be used on the course, the same a in a classroom. Previous participants report, they will be too busy to bother about their mobiles.

Keep Collie Clean - Go ahead for project needed

Bob reported we have had positive feedback from the Keep Australia Beautiful Council. Their Community Grants scheme is 1st July and are looking forward to our application. Our shire has continuing issues with littering, particular on the Coalfields Hwy east and west, Preston/Collie roads, and it's an opportunity for Rotary to get involved in cleanups and education on a regular basis. Bob implored the current and incoming boards to support this initiative for the forthcoming year.

South32 Grant Application - Collie Adventure Race

Due to the sheer number of other applicants, our application was not successful on this occasion. There is a second round of grants in August and hopefully we may be successful in gaining a grant towards the Collie Adventure Race.

Invite re Roadside Signage

Donna made Bob aware that there is a meeting of the Shire Townscape Committee coming up and one of its perviews is street signage. The committee will invite ideas from the community then after a review process will be sent for consideration at a Shire meeting. It may be an opportunity to have anti-littering signs located at strategic locations.

Attendance, Cards and Wheel

Attendance: We had 23/29 members attend for a 85.7% attendance rate. Four apologies, 4 make-ups and 1 club daughter. Thank goodness for the make-ups otherwise our attendance would be down. Cards: Bernie couldn't find the Joker. Wheel: Spun by Robyn, then Rod who missed out on a fantastic prize.
