Our host Lyndon Pilatti welcomed members and introduced his wife Sue.
The workshop and offices are about six years old and very large to accommodate machinery and goods.
One aspect of the business is to ensure compliance with the Chain of Responsibility laws. The ‘Chain of Responsibility’ legislation was introduced into WA law in April this year. It is basically about load restraint on vehicles, and means if you are involved in consigning, packing, loading, driving, operating/Managing or receiving in the transport process, you may be liable should a loaded item come loose causing injury or damage.
Lyndon explain their measures for securing a load and described some of the equipment now needed to comply.
Pilatti Bros. are also an agent for Holcim for mixing and delivering concrete, a very competitive business. On the transport side they deliver goods for many local companies with regular trips to Perth and other major centres.
Some member took the opportunity to check out the workshops, office and photographs of some of the history of Collie transport equipment and people involved.
A little disappointing to have a few silent absences, an attendance of 89.6% was very good. We had 21 members attend, 1 honorary member, and 1 guest (Jan Kromhout). Four Makeups and 2 Leave of Absence.
A sumptuous barbeque was organised by Graeme and Michele and both also cooked. Colourful Salads, a couple of varieties of delicious sausages, tender steak, fresh bread rolls, fried chicken and a selection of fresh fruits all made for an enjoyable meal. Mike brought an Esky-full of cool refreshments for our thirsty members.
President Neil thanked Lyndon and Sue for their hospitality and having our group attend to see how their transport business and concrete batching agency operates. Thanks to Graeme for arranging the visit and also to Michele for the preparation, cooking and serving of food. A welcome to Jan Kromhout, and to Peter Froud.
