Peter Rueben attended Amaroo School assembly on Thursday for a formal handover of a digital microscope as an initiative of the “Microscopes for Schools” program.
In the past the club had provided schools with small enlarger type lens microscopes. After investigation by Rotarians Terry Hunter and John Bylund, they found the small microscopes were not being utilised. The feedback from schools included requests for improved technology in the form of a microscope that can be used with a computer and projector. This allows all the class or group to experience magnification of objects and to a much higher scales of magnification.
Rotary provided the funding and the schools were responsible for the purchase. Amaroo is one of the first schools to have purchased this type of microscope.
This project is aimed at encouraging our youth to take an interest in science and the structure of the world around them.
