4-Way Speech Contest - only one applicant raised a query over the competition if only one entrant. The response was we should still proceed to encourage the contestant even if no other competitors.
Alice - has settled into the second week of school and has received a school laptop. Is finding the curriculum interesting. If anyone has Australian themed pins or badges for Alice's jacket, please bring them along to the meeting as she has plenty of spaces to attach them in the forthcoming year. Alice will be giving a talk on her hometown in the near future.
Allanson Pathway - met with Brett Lowcock who informed us everything is coming together. The Shire wants Collie Rotary to complete a 52 metre by 2 metre concrete path to join the existing concrete path to the planned pathway. There will also be a triangular section that we can landscape and add a seat to recognise our club's contribution. At tonight's meeting it was agreed by the meeting to proceed with the purchase of concrete and materials and to commence planning. Additional seats along the existing path. John Vlasich to discuss the making of seats with the Heritage Group. Damian is the Chair of the Pathway Project.
Interviews - have been conducted this week. Thanks to Trevor Stewart, Martin Boettcher and Bob Greig for being interviewers. There are six students for the next set of interviews. The first set on August 3rd will be adjudicated by Libby and Geoff. The second set on August 5th will be judged by Damien and Geoff. John Bylund said there has been some very good feedback from students involved and school staff members.
BMX Demolition Crew - white ants have eaten a fair bit of the structure. Some of the jarrah battens are OK, but the main roof support beam needs to be replaced. Doug is going to get a cost estimate. Thanks to the crew of Harry, Robyn, Martin (particularly for reaching the high spots), Murray, Rory, Steve and Jan.
In preparation for his holiday to the Netherlands, Mike presented Harry with appropriate footwear.
Bottling Excursion - planned for Bridgetown. The bottling takes about one hour to fill bottles and depends on the number of people attending. Five members have indicated they will attend. As there are some costs to the club this is to be discussed at the next Board meeting.
No welcome backs. Guests - Nicole, Rory, Alice. Badges, Graeme. Birthdays, Martin for the 5th. Induction, Neil for the 4th. In the paper, John B. Alice, Neil, and no garage sale John V. Phone-tone, Rory. Harry for his glogs. Norm, and how not to load cattle, win friends and influence people. Cards, Tony, Steve, Peter. Graeme reported on Libby who arrived a week early for the interviews. Neil noticed Terry moved at lightning speed to pick up $30 off the floor. Norm went to find the coal discovery site and got lost due to lack of directional signs (suggested it needs better signage). Two jokes about a cemetery plot for a birthday present and the ex-boyfriend breakup celebration.
Tony has been model making since childhood when he and his father constructed models together. After an interval of many years, Tony's interest was re-ingnited and resumed this very intricate hobby. He found that by buying set lots of model packages online cheaply, he could select the ones he wanted to build, keep some and sell others.
So we could experience the organisation needed to construct a model Tony and Nicole have brought models, paints, glues and tools for members to make their own piece.Tony explained some of the techniques of giving realism to items.
There were many models and each has its own challenge. Members were given a pre-packed try of items and given 30 minutes to put together their own model.
Like kids in a lolly shop members selected a tray and some could be seen biting their lip in concentration and re-checking instructions to get their masterpiece together.
Eric gave a vote of thanks to Tony and Nicole for a very interesting experience of the intricate world of model making.
