WHO KNEW THIS EVEN EXISTED?
 
Linda Ross, CEO Of APIWA spoke at our club meeting this morning.  She has many hats but the one we heard about today was how the Australia Post Institute social club has evolved from what it was back in 1925 when it was first set up in WA to help postal workers develop social cohesion.  The WA API social club has expanded its membership and is now open to the public.  Linda spoke about the benefits of becoming a member as well as her plans to build a Telecommunication Museum so that people can learn about the history of telecommunication in Australia.
Pedal Prix WA is over for this year
Jude provided some information about the trike he and his team have been using this year.  Some modifications were made such that it now deemed to be the fastest cor-flute bike in Australia.  Jude and is team want to thank Ascot Rotary for their support over the last 2 years.  He hopes to build a more reliable and even faster bike for next year.  Jude is off to compete in the 24 hour race in Adelaide in September.  We wish him well.
Our Rotary Toast this morning was to the Rotary Club of Congleton in the UK.
This club was formed in 1947 and now has about 30 members.  They meet on the first and third Monday of each month at the Astbury Golf Club for a 7 pm meeting.  They alternate their meetings between a business meeting and hosting guest speakers.  The club works towards raising funds for worthy causes and being involved in their local community. 
 
Pete, our toast master for today selected this club because his wife, Sue grew up in this area.

  • Ticket sales are now open
  • Vendors are trickling in
  • Exhibitors are getting their displays ready
  • Request for volunteers will be happening soon.
Latest news:
  • There are 22 reported cases until 25 August 2026.  19 in Afghanistan and 3 in Pakistan.
  •  Wild polio has declined by more than 99% since 1988.
  • Type 2 and Type 3 have both been eradicated - just Type 1 to go!
  • Eradication means stopping transmission of the virus everywhere in the world.  Vaccination, surveillance and outbreak prevention are vitally important to enable this to happen.

  • Pete and Kerry attended the Forget Me Not Cafe event at Bella Rosa to find out what we can do for them.
  • Pete is keen to obtain funds for a Memory Cafe event.  Jodie is going to investigate where funds might be available
  • Hugh has reminded us to ensure that our assistants are kept in the loop regarding communications
  • Delighted to hear that the 2 students we are sponsoring to attend the National Youth Science Forum have both been accepted.

  • Dianne won the wine raffle this week - what a welcome back!
