At this morning's meeting Michael B asked us to reflect on what we were doing when we were 22.  We were surprised at what we found out . . .
The age of 22 - what were we doing.  The "when" of when we were 22 varied considerably within the group from the early 1960's to the late 1990's.  The 'what' of what we were doing was just as varied.  Some people were working, some were studying - either full time or part time, some moved from city to country or visa versa with their job; one resigned from their job to go travelling, whilst another was moving from overseas to live in Australia.  Some met their partner, some were already with their partner, some were married, some were not, some had children some did not. Most of us were engaged in sport of one kind or another whether it was ballroom dancing, hockey, basketball (which in the day was confused with netball), soccer, or squash.  One was introduced to Rotary for the first time - as the result of a neighbour sponsoring her to go to Handicamp.  Another found that as a teacher in a high school he was the shortest person in the class.  Another found out that Customs Officers of the day had a Customs' Lock which was used to lock the wharf and no one could get in.  One was seconded to a company where golf carts were used to get around the factory because it was so big; another had to have a couple of goes at getting her driver's licence because she found out she had an eye problem, another didn't find out about Neil Armstrong landing on the moon until weeks later as he was at sea at the time.  Someone else was told that they were a better fit in the organisation because they didn't have 'an unfortunate speech problem' that the previous person had (turned out that that person swore a lot!).

It was a great introduction to each other and provided us with a chance to reflect on what we were doing at that time - all within the space of the 2 minutes we were given to speak.

Thanks Mike, great idea.  Well done everyone.
