Another way in which the Rotary Club of Ascot helps, this time in our International community, is by funding pipes, tanks, taps and ablution blocks in highland villages in Timor Leste.
To date we have funded five projects with the assistance of Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) and Global Grants, which have resulted in fresh, clean drinking water being piped to many tiny hamlets, small and large villages and schools. The water and the ablution blocks have made a significant difference to the health and welfare of the local children who would otherwise be engaged in carrying water for their family and animals and now frees them up allowing them to attend school.  Where there was once a high incidence of health issues like scabies, diarrhoea and other diseases related to poor hygiene, the general health in all of the villages has improved dramatically.
