Food Rescue is the missing link between the thousands of tons of fresh, nutritious food thrown into landfill each year by the food industry and the thousands of hungry and disadvantaged people in need across WA.
Established in Belmont 5 years ago and funded with the very generous support of several large corporations the business has grown to have 2 full time staff, 4 casual drivers and 100 volunteers who collect, sort and pack food for distribution to the needy.
They supply food to 71 agencies around Perth, these agencies feed approximately 11,325 people in need every week and the agencies report an increase in demand of 100% over the last 12 months. Times are tough for a lot of people in our community.
Julie’s goal is to take the distribution to another level by having a commercial kitchen to run cooking demonstrations so the recipients of food can learn how to cook the food and enjoy nutritious meals instead of fast food.
