Richard Maus, a Rotarian and polio survivor will present his story of survival. After moving back and forth between a supportive home and a renowned children’s hospital, Richard did not feel like he belonged anywhere. He contracted polio at 4 months of age and was hospitalized for 965 days over 15 years. After 16 operations, contemplating suicide as a young student and he flunking out of two colleges he finally graduated from a third college with majors in mathematics and physics. He eventually received his master’s degree and became a licensed pilot. He authored a book called, Lucky One, which is the timeless story of a child’s struggle to make it through pain, depression and despair to a rewarding life and career

Richard’s passion is to see the eradication of polio worldwide and wants to make sure we stay diligent in our efforts. He is a member of the Northfield Rotary Club and resides in Northfield with his wife, Donna.
