President's Report for 5th December 2019
President's Report
Last Thursday we were enthralled with a talk given by Terry Taylor of Hello World Travel – the same people who donated suite cases for our Family Violence dinner.  Visiting India 80 odd times, Terry has extensive knowledge of the country, the people, the history and their customs.  Gifting us with an audio/visual tour, Terry guided us through India.  His photography was sublime and all were totally absorbed in his incredible stories of this amazing country.  Thank you Terry.
More excitement was to follow with a wonderful concert by Symphony Central Coast on Sunday, (Terrigal Rotary are one of SCC sponsors).  The concert commenced with the beautiful music of Bernstein only to be followed by a superb performance of Ravel Piano Concerto in G by soloist Gareth Szakos – amazingly talented, Gareth made his debut with the SCC at age 8.  I am sure Gareth is destined for great things.  The finale brought us the beautiful voices of 5 singers from Palm Tree Studios who serenaded us with classic, swing and jazz.  A fantastic afternoon, after which we congregated around food and drinks and were privileged to meet the artists.  The work and effort David Mylan and the Rotary Club of Terrigal have contributed to promoting and sponsoring SCC was acknowledge by a special presentation to David.
This week we have our AGM.  Peter Halliday will chair the meeting.  There will be no official toast or citation.
Next week is our Christmas party hosted by Janet and John Millhouse. See below for details.  The club then breaks until 9th January when we shall be treated to an evening at the home of Bill and Norma Boag, 3 Ocean Palm Close Wamberal 2260.
District Conference
If you are intending to attend the district conference, early booking discounts end at the end December
Wishing everybody a merry Christmas and happy, healthy new year.

Inaugural Dinner
Inaugural Dinner:
On Thursday 21 November 2019 an inaugural dinner was held that demonstrated Rotary’s commitment to stop domestic violence on the Central Coast and raise awareness of the service providers who support the victims of family and domestic violence.  After months of planning the Terrigal Rotary organizing team hosted eighty guests including four guest speakers and a musician.  The event achieved our goal of engaging the community in a conversation and sharing information about family and domestic violence.
The professional and helpful staff of Breakers Country Club who did everything that was requested.  The function room was thoughtfully set up by Breakers staff and the event organizing team.  Many comments were received that the room looked beautiful and welcoming.

Tim Beasley provided perfect music prior to and during dinner that was enjoyed very much by the guests. Rotarian Geoff Spring had the role of MC and did a great job, Rotarian Micheal Hickey was our amazing auctioneer who skillfully achieved a successful auction.
Auction items included, antique clock donated by John Buckingham “Timepiece Repairs”, a set of suit cases in three different sizes donated by Hello World, a beautifully framed photograph donated by Peter Hamilton, a 2 course dinner for two at L’Isle de France and a lovely painting donated by Marlene Palahyi.
The New Leaf donated a beautiful basket for the raffle prize and Rotarians Norma and Bill Boag donated the lucky door prize of a basket full of goodies.
The committee members, Mary, Janet, Jill, Norma and Lyn, are congratulated and thanked for supporting and helping to host this important event that raised the awareness of domestic violence on the Central Coast which is a major issue in our community.
