President's Report

FROM DAVID MYLAN filling in for Mary

Terrigal Rotary is a proud community partner of Symphony Central Coast (SCC).  Ms Hilary Day, past president / current committee member of and cellist with SCC together with Mr David Hughes, Business Manager SCC                                                 and  wife Janine attended our 12 September Rotary Meeting.  Hilary was the guest speaker.   Our introduction to the SCC and the orchestra followed a quiz of all things “orchestra” which sharped our attention to the information Hilary was to provided. cid:85
Hilary took us on a lovely and educative journey through the four families of instruments in an orchestra together introducing us to SCC’s Concert Master, first class violinist, principal of each family of the orchestra and the conductor.  A brief history of the organisation now known as the SCC was provided which gave an an insight to the life and times of a community based orchestra and the passion and commitment of members.
We now understand some intricacies of the orchestra such the tuning of the orchestra to Note A as played by the oboist, and the rest of the orchestra tunes their instruments to match it. The oboe leads the tuning because of all the instruments and why the brass instruments continuously have warm air blown into them during periods of now playing.

It is with great anticipation that we look forward the SCC’s The German Masters of Fate, Sunday 22nd September, 2019, 2:30pm, at the Performing Arts Centre, Central Coast Grammar School
