Learning from WASH Failures

Rotarians are rightly proud of their WASH projects; they love to talk about them.
But we don't discuss failures - the many projects that no longer function,
no longer benefit the community.
This Breakout Session will discuss why projects fail: poor management,
not engaging the community, ignoring local authorities, wrong technology,
failure to build capacity, no funds for operation and repair,
poor monitoring and feedback.
Moderated by Chair-emeritus PDG Ron Denham, this session will feature
Rotarians from India, Kenya, Ghana and North America.
They will tell us about failed, unsustainable projects;
why they occurred and, more importantly, the lessons learned and
implications for the sustainability of future projects.
So much effort and funding goes into failed projects.
