AGM Report  Thursday 22 November, 2018

President Greg opened the meeting and Geoff recited the Four Way Test.  David Mylan toasted The Rotary Club of Canberra Sunrise.  Mary Crammond honoured John Milhouse and his team on the amazing efforts and enormous amount of hard work they put in for our book sale on 16-19th November.

The book sale netted over $9,000 and we all know that without John running our book sale, it simply would not happen and without the book sale, we would not be able to fund the many projects out Club is proud of funding.  Thank you John.

David discussed the "Little Ray of Giving" program that we fun through Ray White and said that the presents would definitely stay on the coast.

David mentioned that he is donating tickets for Symphony Central Coast to local politicians, to the staff of Coast Shelter and other volunteers helping with the Pamper project.  Rotarians can book concessional tickets for this concert on 2nd December.  David has updated our Rotary Branding on the Little Library at Wambaral.

Mary talked about the up coming Pamper project scheduled for 26th November and that decision had been made regarding Rotaract Central Coast.  David Mylan would be talking to Pres. Chris in this regard.

Our Secretary Andrew took the minutes of the AGM and each Director gave their report for the year.  Our secretary discussed the updating of our drop box platform and the centralisation of documents.

The Board of Directors for Rotary Year 2019/20 were the elected.  All position went unopposed.

ROTARY CLUB OF TERRIGAL
AGM 22ND NOVEMBER 2018
DIRECTOR PROJECTS REPORT
JOHN MILLHOUSE
BOOK SALE
The highlight of the November book sale was the outstanding support from our volunteers. Special thanks to West Gosford and Erina Rotary club, along with various friends and supporters who provided physical labour and enthusiasm. Mention should also be made of the support from lifeline and Central Coast Libraries in the form of books. It was wonderful to have so many members attend to setup, sell, sort and clean up, without you this would not work. There was a great sense of camaraderie. It was noticeable how many buyers came along with their lists of their unread/read books. I think we amazed ourselves when we remembered where to find certain books.
Improving the quality of books has been a continuous process and there were many positive comments regarding this. The newly acquired custom printed site banners were a spectacular advertisement for the Rotary Club of Terrigal. Whilst not cheap it would appear that these banners could be adapted at a relatively low cost to replace our aging vinyl signs.
Although attendee numbers appeared to be down from the last sale in April the increase in book price to $3 seemed to balance this out.
BOOK SALE DATES 2019
APRIL 5TH, 6TH,7TH ,8TH
NOVEMBER 15TH, 16TH, 17TH, 18TH
Please put these in your diary now
LITTLE LIBRARY
We now have 2 little libraries in our area, the original at the Rotary Park and the second one established at Wairakei rd. playground, Wamberal. Both are proving to be popular, thanks to David Mylan for helping to keep stocks refreshed.
BUSHCARE
Our bushcare group continues to work steadily under council supervision on the western end of the Terrigal Lagoon. We have been assisted by council contractors who have removed larger trees and vegetation which is beyond the scope of the bushcare group. Thanks to Bushcarer Dick Whittaker for sending the drone shot of the Lagoon.

INTERNATIONAL
Director Jill Hamilton 2018 - 2019

This year our main recipient will be School for Life, Uganda.
This Rotary funded school was founded by Annabel Chauncey together with David Everett, Australians, in 2008, as a response to her vision of world class education for the rural poor in Uganda.  Rotary has been a major partner from the beginning, and fund raising is always needed to keep the school running, and supporting vocational development in the immediate village, Katuuso.
We will donate $1000 this year.

Days for Girls is a charity which makes and promotes sustainable sanitary protection for girls at school in countries where poverty dictates that older girls start withdrawing from regular attendance at school.  Local branches make kits from fabric, which are then distributed to countries in need. Sustainability is developed by teaching local groups in country, to make and sell kits at little more than cost price. A kit, being washable, is designed to last for two years,
We will donate to our local group with $500.

A further donation of $500 will be made to the housing project (Tabitha), in Cambodia.
Many families participating in the “Community Development Through Family Savings Program” are able to save enough money to buy land and the materials to build a house. However, some very poor families cannot save all the money required for land and a house – for example, widows, single mothers, landmine victims, children orphaned as a result of AIDS, etc.
Community elders and Tabitha staff select the neediest families, who are to receive a house, from within the participant’s of the savings program in a community. Each family selected will contribute $25 USD towards the materials of their home – the team pays the rest. Families that are receiving a home must own the land where the house will be built.
Tabitha Cambodia invites international volunteer building teams to Cambodia to finance the materials for the houses and these teams then work, under the direction of Khmer builders, to complete the simple houses.

It is hoped to have an international evening where extra funds can be raised.

The Club has agreed to continue to donate $25 per guest speaker to The Foundation in lieu of a gift.  A certificate of appreciation is given to the speaker outlining details of the Foundation.

Centurions:
Those who are existing Centurions ($100 Aust to the Rotary Foundation each year) have been given a renewal form for 2018-19
Those who haven’t joined previously have been encouraged to join.
Centurion poles and stands are available for those who wish to use them.
Regular financial Supporters of The Rotary Foundation
Other club supporters of the Foundation through regular credit card deductions have continued to support the Foundation in this way.

Special Event
At this stage no special event to benefit the Foundation (such as a combined dinner for Central Coast Clubs with a special guest speaker) has been organised.  I have approached Rotary International asking if President Elect Mark Malone would be available to visit the Central Coast during the first 6 months of 2019, but have not had a response confirming this.

Grants
The club has not sought any funding from the Foundation during 2018-19 for any of its projects.
