Rotary Club of Helderberg Sunrise Blanket Drive 2019
Born out of the success of the Rotary Clubs of District 9400 in Gauteng blanket drive which has been running since 2011, our club decided to pursue our own drive in the winter of 2019. By donating ONLY R70 the public is able to sponsor a South African manufactured blanket which is then distributed through reputable organisations to those in need. This initiative runs for the full month of July by way of 2 stands at strategic points in the Somerset West Mall every weekend on both Saturday and Sunday. Our stands open at 9am and close at 5pm and are manned by 2 volunteers for 2 hours each. At the time of writing this article we had 624 blankets sponsored over the 1st two weekends in July and a further 350 purchased by Rotarians, friends and family’s prior to the physical blanket drive commencing.

· The Gabriella Centre which offers residential and day care for physically and intellectually challenged children and young adults.

· Helderberg Street People’s Centre (Thomas Home of Hope)

· Helderberg Centre for the Aged
· Animal Welfare
· Churches
· To name a few
