Giving Back To a Generous Country: My Journey in Australia.
Dr Akra completed his training as a Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon in the United Kingdom and Nigeria, leading to his consequent induction into the Edinburgh College of Surgeons as a fellow in BST in 2002 (FRCSEd), then West African College of Surgeons in Trauma & Orthopaedics as a fellow in 2004. He continued his training in Emergency Medicine at a range of hospitals including Gosford and Wyong Public and Westmead Children's Hospital.He has qualifications in Paediatric Emergency Medicine and has extensive Emergency Medicine/Trauma experience, previously fulfilling roles in Hospital Emergency Departments in the UK .  Australian emergency posts include Mount Gambier, Kalgoorlie and Bunbury Hospitals in Western Australia. Emergency Medicine and as Director of Research at Albury Wodonga Health.
Dr Akra has a great interest in General Emergency, Emergency Cardiology, Paediatric Emergencies, Mental Health Issues in the Emergency Centre, and Trauma. Besides clinical medicine, Dr Akra is also passionate about research and teaching medical students and young doctors. He was appointed as conjoint lecturer at the Albury campus of the rural medical school of University of NSW in 2017, and has since progressed to become a senior lecturer, teaching and examining in emergency medicine and anatomy. He is also currently a conjoint fellow of the University of Newcastle Medical School on the Central Coast. His research interests include foot and ankle problems, Pedobarograph studies, spine orthopaedics, general orthopaedics, imaging in trauma, bronchiolitis/asthma, and migraine treatment.
