Geoffrey William Melville OAM
 
Many Terrigal members will be pleased to learn that fellow Rotarian and friend to many of us, the late Geoff Melville, a long-term member of Umina Beach Rotary, was recognised in the Australia Day honours list  on 26th January for service to the community through a range of roles.  Geoff was a wonderful Rotarian and very deserving of this award.
 
Rotary Peace Fellowships
 
Applications for the 2022-2023 Rotary Peace Fellowship open in February, and close at the end of May. As soon as entries are formally open, why
not advertise in the local press for candidates and then form a committee to interview and assess candidates for submission to District. Full details are
on the website https://my.rotary.org/en/peacefellowship-application and please feel free to pass this information on to individuals you believe may
be interested in applying. Please note that families of Rotarians are not eligible to apply.
 
Clubs are invited to sponsor a District Global Grant Scholarship for 21/22
 
Every year District 9685 sponsors a post-graduate scholarship for US$30,000 for overseas study at a recognised university or institution.  It must be aligned to one or more of Rotary’s seven areas of focus.
 
We are seeking candidates with the following attributes;
  • A proven record of success in academic results or vocation
  • Commitment to a career in one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus
  • Demonstrated personal commitment to community service
  • Personal qualities to be a good ambassador for Rotary and Australia
  • Excellent leadership skills and potential
  • Well defined and realistic goals
  • Commitment to participate in Rotary activities and maintaining a strong relationship after the scholarship period.
 
Scholarships must be sponsored by a Rotary Club in the District.
There is no financial cost to the sponsoring club.
Application forms are available on line and should be submitted to a local club in January to March 2021.
 
Applications must be received by Pam Pritchard, Chair of the District Scholarship Committee, by the 31stMarch 2021.

Humanity in Action
 
Please note that advance orders are now being received for the soon to be published ‘Humanity in Action – Celebrating 100 years of Rotary Clubs in
Australia and its Near Island Neighbours’. This is a 400 page hard cover book to mark the centenary of Rotary in Australia.  Numbers are
limited and pre orders should be addressed to PDG Harry Durey – hdurey@bigpond.com – telephone 0407 005 910. Cost is $25 plus postage.
AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT: ORDER YOUR COPY OF ROTARY’S CENTENARY BOOK NOW ‘HUMANITY IN ACTION – Celebrating 100 Years
of Rotary in Australia and our near island neighbours’ will be published on April 1, 2021, just in time for official Centenary celebrations on April
20/21/22. However, the high cost of preparation and printing limits the size of the print run to 3,000 at this time and, after District commitments are
fulfilled, remaining books will be sold on a ‘first in’ basis for $25 (plus postage) each, including GST.
