The end of 2020 is nearly upon us and I’m sure millions and millions of people around the world will be rejoicing with high hopes of a kinder year in 2021.  However, let’s not forget and be thankful for all the joy, camaraderie, achievements and lessons experienced and learned by the world and ourselves during this year.   At the same time, let’s remember the millions of people still suffering from Covid 19, war, famine, drought, fire and flood.  Despite our devastating traumas in 2019/20 Australia is still “the lucky country” and I’m so grateful to live here.

I’m also grateful to be leading such a wonderful group of Rotarians.  Our members have rallied during Covid to support each other, help people less fortunate than themselves, plan new projects and to continue our meetings via the internet, in members homes and coffee meet-ups.  We have shown our strength in being adaptable and willing to move with the times.  Thank you all so much for the wonderful support you have given to me and I look forward to the next 6 months as President of Terrigal Rotary.  Congratulations to PE Mark on his new board and I’m sure we’ll all support Mark as I have been supported.  I wish you all a wonderful festive season and a happy, healthy and satisfying 2021.

Market Stall:
Congratulations to Anne Cantrill for sending over $640 to Coast Shelter toward their Xmas appeal.  Anne raised this money on her market stall.  Well done Anne.

Shelterbag Project:  The Shelterbag committee is collecting information on how to apply for the Global Grant.  DGA David Rivett will meet with us this Monday and Rotary Foundation Ambassador District 9685 Haran Ramachandran meets with us in early January.  We are so grateful to be able to use the experience of these people.  Haran’s Club, Hills-Kellyville has probably obtained more international grants than any other club in our district.   The committee are ambitiously thinking that we might be able to fund one shipment of Shelterbags prior to getting our global grant and are therefore investigating ways to raise the necessary funds.  Our application to register this project with RAWCS should be submitted within the next week.

PE Mark is in the process of registering a couple of fund raising projects and we are opening a new bank account specifically for Shelterbag funds.

Today we are selling raffle tickets at Breakers Club to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald room.  Your club is sponsoring the prizes for this raffle.

This Thursday, we have our Xmas Party at Fortune Lane, Chinese Restaurant and it looks like a grand turnout of members, friends of Rotary, friends and relatives will attend.  So far 31 attendees.

Our next meeting will be at 1/7 Steyne Road, Saratoga at 4pm on Thursday 7th January, 2021.  I shall advise you in early January of what to contribute. Hopefully, the weather will hold and we can be in the garden.   I look forward to seeing you all there and in the meantime wish you have a wonderful Xmas.
