Subject: "Barudir" Aboriginal Youth Project - Meeting at 4 CHURCH STREET WYONG on WEDNESDAY 27TH MARCH 2019 at 10.00am.

Dear Presidents,

Recently PDG Harold Sharp attended our Central Coast Presidents meeting and spoke about a local aboriginal youth project called “Barudir” here on the Central Coast.

The project’s objective is to establish a permanent community meeting place to help empower the lives of young Aboriginals living here on the Central Coast. Something I wasn’t aware of is that the Central Coast has one of the youngest Aboriginal populations in Australia with 2,531 Aboriginal people aged between the ages of 15 and 24 and a very high youth unemployment rate.

Harold has organised a meeting with the Aboriginal organisers of the BARUDIR Programme at their premises at 4 CHURCH STREET WYONG on WEDNESDAY 27TH MARCH 2019 at 10.00am.

A few Clubs have already indicated that they will have a representative attend the meeting, however, the remaining Clubs have not yet confirmed whether they will attend or not.

Could I please encourage all of you to see if you could possibly have a representative from your Club attend this meeting as this is a really worthwhile project and gives our Rotary Clubs here on the Central Coast an opportunity to do something really beneficial for our local Aboriginal community especially for Aboriginal youth and children.

Could you please reply directly to PDG Harold and confirm if you will be able to have a representative attend this meeting?

Thank you & regards
David

Subject: RI Central Coast Presidents meeting 22 February 2019

Dear David, Annona and Peter

Many thanks for allowing me to speak at last Friday nights Central Coast Presidents meeting on the the local Aboriginal youth project “BARUDIR “

I was thrilled by the interest shown by all who attended !

BARUDIR is a vision to establish a permanent community meeting place that empowers the lives of young Aboriginal living on Darkinjung country NSW Central Coast. BARUDIR is vital for Aboriginal children, youth and their families to move forward for creative learning and development.

The NSW Central Coast has:
  • The fastest growing Aboriginal population in Australia, growing from a population of 7,012 in 2006 to 12,485 in 20216
  • One of the youngest Aboriginal populations in Australia with 2,531 Aboriginal people  between the ages of 15 and 24.
  • A very high youth unemployment rate estimated at 39%

I have been able to organise a meeting with the Aboriginal  organisers of the BARUDIR Programme at their premises at 4 CHURCH  STREET WYONG for WEDNESDAY 27TH MARCH 2019 at 10.00am  so that they may explain fully their program and what they desperately need in support from Rotary International

It would wonderful if a representative from each of the14 Rotary Clubs on the Central Coast could find the time to attend

It would be appreciated if you could contact me if you or a representative of your Club could attend

Best Regards

PDG Harold Sharp
