A DISTRICT GOVERNOR VISIT WITH A DIFFERENCE

In days long since passed some older Rotarians will recall that the DG Visit was not always looked forward to with overwhelming enthusiasm by every member.
However in present times there has emerged “the very model of a modern District Governor “(with apologies to Gilbert and Sullivan) of which Lindsay May ( and his charming wife Tania ) is an excellent example. Lindsay came to us via zoom as a business man off distinction , an exceptional sportsman of the sailing variety and a warm and engaging leader.

Why was this so ? Well he didn’t regale us with endless statistics concerning the number of clubs and membership worldwide or a lengthy list of Rotary achievements - worthy as they may well be - over the last 100 years.
What Lindsay did was , against the Covid background , to share with us that , notwithstanding the obvious difficulties , he was engaging with clubs that were still meeting and functioning meaningfully and even managing to collaborate effectively with other clubs. He shared some Covid insurance issues of which we need to be aware and in particular encouraged our Club in what we have been doing with our Shelterbag Project. Lindsay looked forward to the 2022 District Conference at the Rooty Hill RSL with no plan B.
His final advice was for us to appreciate that as we “ Serve to change lives “, we are often acquiring new skills in the process.

Thanks Lindsay for a very pleasant and warm evening.
