From Past Prez Dan Wilson
Midday Rotary held its regular Tuesday meeting at Heron's Key this week.
Heron's Key is a new retirement community in Gig Harbor, and we held the meeting in their large Spinnakers dining room.  The room was well suited for the Rotary meeting, lots of room with tables conducive to good conversation. The food was excellent - a beautifully presented buffet for $10!
The meeting program was a presentation by Cheri Johnson and Dan Wilson, Membership Co-Chairs for 2019-2020, for our plan for membership this year.  Cheri detailed how we will be rolling out two "Invite a Friend" membership days, Rotary socials for prospective members, a "Quadfathers" program to keep in touch with every Rotarian in the club, a new weekly Greeter plan, Dinners for Eight social time, and a weekly Member Spotlight to learn more about our members.
Dan took the club through our various membership categories the club has, and our new Mentor Program for new members to our club.  The New Member will be assigned a Rotarian mentor who will invite the New Member to lunch or coffee, get to know them, and then help the New Member integrate into the club, learn a little club and Rotary history, and introduce the New Member to our Service Committees.
We also enjoyed two Rotary videos, one poking fun at how not to welcome a guest, and the other a shared experience of a first time Rotary visitor who went on to become our District Governor.  Our meeting next Tuesday, August 13, will be held as usual at Anthony's at noon.  Our speaker will be our current District Governor, Maureen "Mo" Fitz-Roberts.
Don't forget Rotary Night at the Rainiers, Thursday August 15.  The event will be attended by more than 200 Rotarians and begins with a Tailgate BBQ at 5:15, with the game to follow at 7:05.
