Greetings Rotarians,
As a new Rotary year begins, I wanted to touch on  the accomplishments and connections that happened this past Rotary year.  Our foundation of service was exhibited with our Dictionary Project, as over 2,600 3rd graders in Weber County received an amazing dictionary and learned about Rotary. Thank you to Bill Bennett and Jane Olson for coordinating this huge endeavor. We were again at the food bank for the Thanksgiving distribution, and this year for the first time passing out bags of food to 500 students (despite the wind and rain) for the CCS "Bridging the Gap" program, at James Madison Elementary.  So many of you tell me our service projects are one of your favorite parts of Rotary.  Thank you Ann Dickson and Maresha Bosgieter for coordinating our projects.
Rotary International President Ravi Ravindran visited Utah in October and many of you took the opportunity to hear his inspiring speech at the All Clubs meeting in Salt Lake City.
We've had interesting and informative lunch presentations, thank you Tim Ludlum.  This is our opportunity to learn about our community, as well as learning of its needs.  We updated our computer equipment both for facilitating presentations and for assisting our Club Secretary.  Thank you George Hall for your contribution.
For the 7th consecutive year, we awarded the Brett Richards Memorial Service Award, and this year to 3 individuals.  It was an honor to present the award to Reed Richards, close brother of Brett, and renowned for his service in Ogden and Weber County on so many levels. We also will be honoring Jack and Sandy Crosland, individually for their service to the community, locally and internationally.
We reached the 100 member mark!  This number was Brent Parkin and the Membership Committee's goal for our Centennial year, but we've reached it already.  Our club will benefit from the diverse talents and contributions that all 100 individuals bring.  Please remember to reach out to new members and introduce yourself.  Thank you Brent and the committee.
Marcelo Ucles from Spain was the exchange we sponsored this year, attending Weber High.  We enjoyed getting to know him and thank you to Kassi Bybee for spending time with Marcelo and his host family throughout the year.
Kirt and Grace Walling again welcomed us to their home for the Chocolate and Cheese Social. Kirt's famous chocolates were in abundance, and lovely cheeses that are Kirt's favorites.  They love to welcome Rotarians to their home, thank you Kirt and Grace.  We enjoyed the beautiful holiday decorations at the Art Center for our Holiday Social, and again this summer at the Art Center for our Garden Party.  Thank you Cathy Labatte and the Socials Committee for providing opportunities for us to relax and socialize.
Due to the support and generosity of the Stewart Education Foundation and our members, we again awarded scholarships to Weber State University, this year to 6 students for $4,000 each.  Thank you to Nate Taggart and the Scholarship Committee for facilitating this support of our youth and their educational endeavors.  For the first time this year, again due to the support of members we awarded 4 scholarships to the Ogden Weber Technical College, $1,000 each.  I hope these additional scholarships become a tradition for our club.  Thank you to Derek Bell and the Foundation Committee for the work this year to update processes in managing scholarship funds, and facilitating payments to the institutions throughout the year.
Our Public Image Committee submitted press releases throughout the year, announcing our various activities and projects.  Our Facebook page received more visits this year and was continuously updated.  Thank you Carol Beddome and your committee, and all those who posted pictures and helped to spread the good work we are doing.  Thanks to Cheyenne Liu we are updating our website, as this is a work in process.
In closing, I extend my sincere thanks to all who helped to make this a great Rotary year.  I know that George will bring us into the Centennial year with great leadership and new opportunities.  Please show your support by becoming involved in a committee and sharing your talents.
Warmest Regards,

Rotary Year 2015-2016 Debbie Nielson 2016-07-11 00:00:00Z 0
