Rotary Moment: Rotarian Esther Told the story of the Rotary World Help Network http://rotaryworldhelp.com/

It all started in 1992 when District 5040 sent a delegation of Rotarians to the former Soviet Union to assist with establishing the first Rotary Club in Kiev in the Ukraine. The delegates saw the state of the medical facilities and decided to find a way to help. In 1993, the late Ted Segodnia together with fellow Vancouver club Rotarians, Bill Richwa and Ralph Towsley, organized the first shipment of medical supplies and equipment to Kiev.

Mile stones

In 2012 we passed our first major milestone when the estimated  value of the goods shipped passed 100 Million dollars!

In 2013 we passed our second major milestone when we shipped our 300th container! We should all feel very proud.

In 2012 we decided to shorten our name to Rotary World Help or RWH and to update our branding with a new logo, and website. We also produced a DVD, Rotary World Help 2013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xX-IscEAmXE  which tells the RWH story and success

Last Week's Speaker

Jim Allworth

Investment strategist with RBC Dominion

Raised in Toronto, Jim has resided in Vancouver with his wife Rojeanne since 1975. He is a graduate of Simon Fraser University (Econ).

Jim has been in the investment business for 48 years, as both a research analyst and portfolio strategist. Through more than four decades at RBC Dominion Securities (and predecessor Pemberton), Jim has developed investment policy for the firm and translated that into solutions for individual clients. He is the RBC Dominion Securities investment strategist and Co-Chair of the Global Portfolio Advisory Committee.

A couple of the many intersting points that Jim made were that :

  • The USA economy has grown at 6% per annum for the last 120 years.
  • Every recession is preceded by a tightening of the money supply.
Jim was introduced by our good friend of Rotary Brian Martin  (it was good to see Brian at our meeting) and thanked by Rotarian Natalie.

Jim offered to match our donation to Polio Plus and the eradication which we make in the name of the speaker
