Our Speaker - Before introducing our Speaker Councillor Bill Soprovich, President Ken pinned Councillor Bill as an Honourary Rotarian for 2017-2018 and reminded our members that Councillor Bill has supported Operation Red Nose every night for the last 13 years. Councillor Soprovich was also given a Rotary End Polio Now pin. President Ken then went on to introduce Councillor Bill who was re-elected in 2014 for his seventh consecutive term as Councillor. Councillor Bill has lived and worked in West Vancouver for the last 40 years and during this time has served on most of our Municipality’s committees.
Councillor Bill gave a very erudite account of our council’s plans for our community. Traffic, Housing and trees are a concern to many.
There are two houses remaining on the waterfront one owned by Jimmy Patterson.
For housing matters the plan is that the lower part of Brissenden Park be used to build housing and the proceeds used to acquire the last two house and the water front. This area would then become the Brissenden Water Front Park.
The water front is still a work in progress. The Ferry Building will be moved over a few feet and raised to deal with potential flooding issues.
The Hollyburn Sailing Club stays and there will be a wine bar on the west side. The boat ramp will move into Ambleside Park.
The Ambleside Park concession is to have a top floor restaurant.
The dispute with CN rail concerning rent for the sea wall is going to a form of arbitration
Park Royal is building the theatres.
Highest poverty in Metro Vancouver is in Ambleside.
The West Vancouver Police Department and Municipality staff have moved into the new building.
The speaker was thanked by Rotarians Vicki
