How is it that those “sweet days of Summer” seem to pass so swiftly? Here we were tonight, gathering for our next-to-last Meeting of August! President Bruce rounded us up, as he prompted us to join him in saying The Pledge. Cindy gave Our Blessing, as she recited a favorite prayer of many…The Prayer of St. Francis. How true these words ring for us as Rotarians, as each of us aspires to being “an instrument of peace”! Jack led us in singing “God Bless America”. We were a rather small group this evening. There were 22 members in attendance, and two members, Nancy, and Robin, who joined us on Face Book Live. We welcomed guests, Sharon, and Scott Waldeis, this evening’s program presenter. Tom would share the Rotary Moment at Meeting’s End.

Laurie clearly explained where all the Happy Bills and Fines go. Many of us have wondered how these bills are spent. Laurie pointed out that usually, an accumulation of around $2500 is acquired each year. Last year, during the height of the pandemic, and meeting via Zoom, over $8000 was garnered!! She also explained (for new members) that the term “Happy Bills” refers to a longtime beloved Rotarian, Bill Vierhile, who always had a way of making others happy!

Pres. Bruce had prepared ballots for the Membership to vote for the Office of Vice-President for next year. The ballots were collected, and they will be tallied. We shall know the outcome at next week’s Meeting.

We welcomed special guest Scott Waldeis, of Naples Valley Chiropractic, to our gathering tonight. Before launching into his presentation, Scott thanked Rose for the invitation, and he shared some of his background with us. Scott, who is originally from Hemlock, didn’t move too far away to live in Naples for the last 15 years. In addition to his Chiropractic background, he has a Master’s Degree in Nutrition. Along with his (Chiropractic) Practice here in Naples, Scott also teaches at Alfred University. He and his wife are busy raising six sons!

The term “Chiropractic” comes from the Greek Language, which means “done by hand’’, and Scott added that Thomas Edison had a visionary statement that basically encompassed the care of the human frame. Chiropractic care does not make use of surgery or pharmaceutical products. This technique was developed in 1895. The American Chiropractic Association was formed in 1963, and by 1974, it became licensed in all 50 states!

This form of healthcare is a “specialty in itself” Scott told us, and the time spent in preparation in this field amounts to over 3000 hours! This immense amount of time results in well-educated professionals. The demographics indicated that this practice is done in over 100 countries! The terms, “luxation” (complete dislocation of a joint), and “subluxation” (partial dislocation) were explained to us. There are a variety of problems that a chiropractor can treat, and special procedures are taken. Counsel is gently provided in terms of exercise, nutrition, and healthy living, as well. There are some instances such as stroke, fracture, or paralysis where this

type of treatment would have to be investigated for appropriateness. There are some risks, of course, but more commonly, pain, inflammation, and soreness could be expected after a treatment. Scott said that Chiropractic Care is typically effective, and it often surpasses conventional treatment. Massage Therapy can complement Chiropractic Care too. He added that 80-90% of patients report having a positive experience! Scott added confidently that they do well in aligning with Edison’s vision! After his talk, Scott entertained questions from the audience, and some who have experienced his chiropractic treatment praised and thanked him!

There were various reasons for the many Happy Bills, and a few Fines this evening! We enjoyed Scott’s well-prepared presentation. John noted that the Naples Valley Chiropractic supports the Rotary Community Calendar. Karen has a Birthday today, and Pat and Bo have an Anniversary. Tom remembers Scott’s son, Carter, being involved with the School Board. Rose and Bruce mustered up some mighty fine music at Caruso’s this past weekend! Jack praised Reservoir Creek for its staying so beautifully maintained despite all the rain! Holly was compelled to add some more money to the coffer! Brenda appreciates all the community helpers. Alex was glad to be here. Betsy’s phone rang, and Karen has a new car! Bruce added that he and Scott have a mutual passion in that they both love what they do! John, Sherry, and Katie were recently in Mississippi, and John said that he will no longer complain about the heat around here!! Laurie was glad that her cataract surgery went well! John also complimented Bruce on his “fancy ballots”!

The Fifty-Fifty Drawing was at $366 tonight! Karen had the right ticket, #661398, and she drew the Jack of Diamonds from the pack.

In closing tonight’s Meeting, Tom shared a poignant Rotary Moment. He recalled Nardine’s message about her nephew, Dom, who felt inspired by Tom. Dom watches “The Meetings” nearly every week, and he doesn’t view them as meetings, but rather a coming together of people focused on doing things. Tom said that we can really make a difference when we speak from the heart. He said that it was important to share with others about ourselves. So often, they will give us back one hundred-fold! Great advice, Tom!

Next week’s Meeting (or Gathering) will be at Noon. We’ll enjoy hearing from Blanche about The Cleveland House! Take care, everyone, and have a great week!
