Spring surely displayed her warmth and beauty today, as we all woke up to that marvelous sunshine this morning! Although we weren’t as large a group as is typically present for a meeting, twenty of us connected for a splendid hour of fellowship online. President Tom commenced the meeting, as we joined him in reciting The Pledge. “God Bless America” is the song Jack chose in which to lead us, and at this time of uncertainty, it surely was appropriate. Steve, I am so sorry that I could not decipher your Blessing, but I am sure it went something like this: “Heavenly Father, please help us and guide us, as we struggle through these challenging times, and as we endeavor to help others, and serve those in need”. Our guest today was Melissa Andalaro, who was also our program presenter. The program today was entitled, “Staying Healthy and Happy”.

We had some birthdays and anniversaries to recognize, as today marked the beginning of April. We sang a heartfelt “Congratulations” to the following members. Here are the April Birthdays: Donna, Judy, Larry, Lauren, John M., Frank, and Bruce M. Here are the April Anniversaries: Steve R. and Mindy, Bill C. and Kit, and Andy and Marianna. Best Wishes to each and every one of you!!

“What’s Happening?” Pres. Tom shared a Thank You Note from Thompson Health. They were very appreciative of our contribution to the new annex. Things are “going well” thus far. Regarding the Rotary Responders, Andy and Marianna report that this group is doing well also. The shoppers and item stockers are in place, and the necessary help is being provided during this crucial time. There are also food boxes at South Bristol. Jack said that the Naples Angels are well-stocked with cash at this time, and they can be of assistance, as well.

Fellow Member, Matt, introduced today’s speaker, Melissa Andalaro, School Psychologist at NCS. In these times of uncertainty, we are all trying to find ways to stay positive, and to connect, and with that being said, Melissa gave us some “top tips” in her presentation called “Staying Happy and Healthy During These Challenging Times”. Melissa provided some excellent suggestions as to how to stay “positive” during this time. She admonished us to be mindful of how much time we spend watching the News. It is important to know the facts. Maintaining a routine is always a good idea, as it affords some continuity to one’s day. One can make a list of things to do around home, and for oneself, keeping a mental check of “How am I doing?” Keeping focused on what one can control is key, and trying to help others, if one can, is essential. On the other hand, if one requires help, he/she should not hesitate to ask. Going for a walk or a drive, writing notes to others, doing Zoom, or Face Time…these are all ways to be supportive, to keep connected, and to maintain health, both in mind and body. Keeping a “Gratitude Journal” is a good idea, too. Melissa urged us to forgive ourselves if things don’t go exactly as planned, and to end each day with the thought, “Today, I did my best!” Pres. Tom said it was important to maintain a purpose. Frank noted that there would be hardships to endure, yet Melissa added that it was important to try to be “in the moment”, also. There is a song from the musical, “Godspell”, and it fairly sums up the attitude we should accept during these trying times. It is called “Day By Day”, and that is exactly the thought Melissa wanted to leave with us! Many thanks for a very encouraging presentation!

Matt opened the floor for suggestions for future programs. Next week, the program will feature DG Dave Hannan, and he will discuss the influence Covid 19 has had on Rotary. Steve R. suggested our doing a program based on a financial point of view. Jack added that having a program in conjunction with our “Sister City”, Naples, Florida, might be a good idea. In this way, we could connect with similar-named clubs. Matt encouraged us to keep thinking about additional program topics.

Now it was “Fine Time”, and I want to personally thank each contributor for stating his/her amount before stating the reason(s). Having done so, it made it so much easier to determine the amounts each of you owed for the last three Online Meetings. (Actually, it’s almost easier to hear and record the Fines and Happy Bills when they’re done in this manner!) We’ll start with John F. His cell phone rang, he was glad everyone was “here”, and he enjoyed the program. Sherry was happy to see the sunshine. Frank didn’t have his badge! He liked the program, and he is happy for the work of the Rotary Responders. Andy is happy about the Rotary Responders, and all that they are doing. Nancy has been making baby sweaters. Jack has been to the stream, and the fish are keeping their “social distance”, and they are staying away! He is happy for The Club as well! Carrie liked the program, and her boys have been busy fishing these days! Karen was happy about the program, Judy’s birthday, and the Rotary Responders. Blanche liked the program, and she enjoyed “seeing” everyone here. Bo and Pat liked Blanche’s posts for the NHS. They also liked the program, and the work of the RR. They had been out golfing too! Leah thought of Judy on her birthday, and she enjoyed the program. Matt also enjoyed the program, and he thought of Judy. Skip and Judy enjoyed the program, and Judy’s BD. They are filled with gratitude, as well! Liz enjoyed the program, and she was happy to see the sun. BTW, Joseph’s opens 4/24! Yeah!! Pres. Tom liked the program, and he was glad to see the 20 of us, including him, there today!

Our Rotary Moment today was provided by none other than Our Dear Skip. He is one to remember and recall fond times. He recollected memories from 20 years ago, when Naples Rotary helped with the Chicken BBQ, which was held in the H.S. cafeteria. It was during the Grape Fest. The wives apparently made salads to go with the meal. Evidently, the Health Officials showed up, and all those nice salads had to be “tossed”! Also, Skip recalled how the Naples Rotary helped the Winterguard with their “Juice Wheel”. Yes, Skip, those were fun days for sure!

Once again, thanks to all of you who were so specific, regarding your Fines and Happy Bills. I attempted to add up each one’s amount for the last three online meetings. If you think I am mistaken, I sincerely apologize! Bo has assisted me in sending out individual “bills”, and I thank him for the help. He has sent these to those members who contributed, via Club Runner. One can send his/her donation to Naples Rotary Club, P.O. Box 173, Naples, New York, 14512. Many, many thanks to Susan for processing this! That is all for now! Stay safe and well, everyone! Best Wishes for a Very Happy Easter!
