What a beautiful evening we had for this year's Gavel Dinner at Brew & Brats! The heat wave gave way to a welcome mid-70s breeze that was perfect for our gathering. We came together to celebrate President Liz's year ending and welcome President Karen!
Thirty Naples Rotarians were joined by newly designated Honorary Member Sharon Fredericks, guests Chip and Stuart Weismiller and Wayne's daughter, Nicole. Exchange Student Gi introduced her Mom, Dad, Brother (who surprised her from Brazil) and her host sister Eliza.
John welcomed all and Liz lead us in the Pledge. Jack chose America the Beautiful, fitting for the day. Rose gave a wonderful Invocation in celebration of Rotary and our mission to serve. Announcements followed, then Liz sent us off to the delicious buffet.
Following the meal and much social enjoyment, we heard the highlights of the past Rotary year. Seven members with over 20 years of service were recognized for their long commitment to Rotary. President Karen assisted with handing out the Perfect Attendance Certificates to 14 Rotarians, including Skip with 39 years and Nancy with 24 years! Congrats to all!
Next, Liz shared her words of thanks to the many who encouraged and supported her over the past year. It has been a trying year for her with family concerns and she really appreciated the club's patience and support. She enjoyed trying some new activities and interacting with so many members.
It became time for Passing of the Gavel! Karen joined Liz at the podium, received her pin and the gavel and rang the bell to adjourn. Much applause welcomed Karen to her Presidential year! Congratulations!
