A beautiful mid-August evening greeted us as we gathered for our first Evening Meeting of the month. That’s right…OUR Meeting, as President Tom assured us when we bade farewell to one another. We began the meeting, as we joined Tom in reciting The Pledge. Jack led us in singing God Bless America. Steve gave The Blessing, thanking The Lord for all His Blessings upon us, as we try to serve others.
In addition to 30 members, there were five guests with us tonight. We welcomed Bridget Ashton, who is the Naples Junior-Senior High School Principal. Along with Bridget were Katie, Sharon, Patty, and Grady. We have started a new addition to the meetings. We will have a Guest Book at the front desk, and each guest will sign in, or have Laurie enter his/her name in the book when he/she enters. Upon completion of the entries for that day, Laurie will announce all the visitors with us. We think it will be a nice way to keep track of all those who join us, and we do have some “regulars” who are with us often!
Fortunately, the gavel wasn’t stolen, but Pres. Tom wondered where the bell was, so he could begin the announcements. Luckily, the bell “appeared”, and Tom was able to start the proceedings!
The Camp O. Set-up took place over the weekend, and Tom, Steve, and Bo ventured over to help Bruce. Bruce and Betty are there with the kids, and they would welcome our help at any time during these next two weeks.

Jack read a lovely note from Sebastian and Judy, thanking us for our support of Building Minds in South Sudan.
Billy read the Thank You Note, (from the screen), from Thompson Hospital, thanking us for our support of the new ICU.
Concerning the “What’s Happening” Agenda:
Tom scrolled down the list of upcoming events on the Rotary Calendar for the next few weeks. Skip noted that on September 9th, we will have our Annual Steak Roast at the VFW. Tom encouraged us to go to the Naples Rotary Website to get further details on upcoming events.
Wayne noted that this weekend, there will be an event at the Cleveland House, with exhibits.

Grady Grove then took the mic, and he thanked us for our support of the DEC Camp, of which he was a part.
Principal Ashton and Supt. Frahm present RISE
Matt, who is starting his 10th year as NCS Superintendent, introduced Bridget Ashton, this evening’s speaker. Bridget is starting her 4th year as Naples Junior-Senior H.S. Principal, and she is very passionate about a new program that is to be launched this Fall.
The program is called “RISE” which stands for Respect, Integrity, Safety, and Excellence, and it is intended to keep kids who have had school infractions “connected”. Bridget gave a scenario of a struggling student, who had no school involvement, and who was “grateful” to have been suspended for an infraction.
With the RISE Program, “The Paradigms will be shifted”, as Bridget stated. Traditionally, students would be suspended to home for “going against house rules”, but with this new approach, students would be “housed at school” on a temporary basis, and they would have tutoring available to them. The rationale for such an approach is that it is safe and supportive, it maintains high expectations, and it promotes knowledge for the student(s) concerned.
Starting in the Fall of 2019, Tyler Vest will be the NCS RISE Coordinator. Teacher Aides will also be on hand to offer support, and the domains covered will be Math, English, Science, and Social Studies, with access to PE. The goal for these students is to monitor, revisit, correct for concerns, and to ultimately “reconnect”. There will also be, as expected, a connection with parents as well.
Kids ultimately want someone to care for and about them, and in growing up, they’re bound to make mistakes. This new program, which is a labor of love, promises to give these youngsters a “second chance”. Upon completion of her talk, The Membership gave Matt, Bridget, and The School Team a hearty round of applause! Abundant thanks to you, and the School Team for all you do to inspire our youth!
Karen came around with the basket to collect Fines and Happy Bills, and to be expected, many bills came forth in praise and appreciation of the program, and the School Team. Members were very appreciative of the Walk of Life. We were glad to have Clyde and Elizabeth back from their trip to Hawaii. Skip, Judy, Carrie, and Billy were proud of Grady and Charlie, and their involvement with the DEC. Susan was thankful that we are able to help the students with their supplies, as there is a great need. Laurie was glad that she had Tyler Vest as a student! There were a few missed meetings: Adam, Steve J., Clyde, Liz, Skip, Judy, Lauren, and Dan.
PP John F Draws the Ace of Hearts!!
The Kitty was at $326 today. Grady picked Ticket #7107, which was John F.’s. John drew the Ace of Hearts!! Congrats on “hitting the jackpot”, John! “Now Sherry and I can go on vacation!” said he.
Today’s Win-Win featured a picture on the screen of Bo and Bruce gazing upon Camp Babcock-Hovey. Tom's question to us was: “What was Bo thinking?” After all that work, Bo was probably thinking about some “libation”!!
The Meeting culminated in viewing a picture of “the mule” that we donated to Camp O., thanks to Steve Richards!
Here are a few other tidbits.
Skip noted that Doug Grove and Howie Fleischman worked on “the cross on the hill” at Rose Ridge Cemetery. Jack also cleared a great deal of brush from the area.
Susan said that we could bring in our school supply donations at any Monday Meeting before school starts.
Jack said that our long-term Exchange Student from Belgium is arriving Monday! Carrie noted that our Aaron is going to Brazil.
Jodi, who along with her family, is on a well-deserved vacation this week, will give us the “wrap-up” at next week’s meeting on the Walk of Life.
