Today we returned to having our Weekly Meetings on Zoom. We had been meeting “In-Person” since August, and though it was great to see one another physically back then, it truly was nice to be together today in this way, as well! It was especially nice to see some friendly faces we haven’t “seen” in a while. There were 22 Members at today’s Virtual Meeting, along with two guests. When it seemed like everyone had joined the meeting, President Matt asked us to join him in saying The Pledge. Susan gave The Invocation. Her words were truly heartfelt as she gave thanks to the Heavenly Father for Pres. Matt, who leads and protects those at school, for Jodi and Mark, who nourish the Naples Community, and for All of Us Rotarians, who give light, hope, and care to others. Today’s guests were Sharon, one of “our regulars”, and John Edwards, who presented the program.
Matt said that he enjoyed seeing everyone this noon. He noted that it had been a safe start to the School Year, however, there are two cases of Covid at NCS at present. Ontario and Livingston Counties are very serious about mask-wearing, and the safety of all is of utmost concern. Matt had some school obligations, so Past President John French would “take over” the Meeting at mid-point. Matt also added that Thanksgiving would look different this year, yet there was still much for which to be thankful!
Patrice gave an update on the Ornament Sale. About half of the ornaments have been sold thus far. The dates for people to bring down their decorated baubles will be from 12/06 – 12/12. This will ensure everyone’s safety as it will prevent a crowd from forming. The Rotary Tree will be installed in Perriello Park on 12/05. The Bauble Sale is going well, thanks to those who have volunteered to help sell them. Many thanks to Caruso’s Café and Rennoldson’s Market for allowing us to sell the ornaments at their businesses.
Rose gave an update on the snowmen. The completed snowmen are due by today. “They look incredible!” said Rose. This refurbishment of the snowmen by area businesses and various individuals will certainly add color and charm to Main Street this Holiday Season! We will start decorating the town on 11/29, and anyone who would like, is welcome to help. We will start at 10:00 AM, and the Meeting Place will be determined at the LUN Committee Meeting tomorrow, 11/24. More information will be sent out after the meeting.
Matt talked about a potential Christmas Gift Exchange, as a possible way to maintain some holiday spirit among members. Names could be put in a hat, and drawn randomly, for those who wish to participate. Matt will have a Sign-Up on Google Doc for those who wish to join in. A Virtual Gift Exchange sounds like fun!
Here is an Update on Operation Santa, which is in its 80th year! Matt has met with Kelly, and there will be some changes this year due to Covid 19. O.S. will stay with the helpers that they have had in the past, as an added measure of safety. Matt reports that they are leaning on getting Gift Certificates this year, as opposed to having the kids go out and do a lot of shopping for families. Matt will keep us posted on its progress.
Thanksgiving Dinner from Caruso’s Café on 11/25: Jodi and Mark have graciously planned to nourish the Community by offering a free (take-out) Thanksgiving Dinner to anyone who wishes to partake of their delicious food. People will be served from 4-7. Jodi noted that they have plenty of provisions, but they could use some help from volunteers. If interested, we are prompted to call Jodi. What a generous act of kindness, Jodi and Mark!
The Oratorical Contest has been cancelled this year because of the Coronavirus. Hopefully, it will take place the following year.

The Happy Bills (and Fines) continue to accumulate at each meeting, and today was no different! People seem to be so generous and giving, and this certainly helps the Club in many ways. Many Happy Bills poured in, as folks enjoyed the program, and they want to do all they can to stay safe and healthy. In fact, our John F. had a friend who was a Covid survivor! Pres. Matt had offered some funds for “being out of order” because he had to leave the meeting early, and because he is looking forward to Thanksgiving, as are all of us, I’m sure! We are proud of our Naples Soccer Team for winning the Section 5 Championship, and we are proud of our Naples Cross-Country Team and Swim Team! Naples sure does produce some awesome athletes, and young people! We are in awe of the generosity exhibited by fellow member, Jodi, and her husband, Mark. Our Sweet Susan celebrated a “Milestone Birthday” this weekend! Best Wishes, Susan! Many, such as Brenda and Robin, were glad to “be together again” on Zoom.
Skip had the Rotary Moment for today. The dictionaries were delivered this past week, and the Elementary Kids were elated! Many thanks to Skip, Judy, Carrie, and Company for bringing the joy of books and learning to our youngsters!
John ended today’s meeting with a “Coffee Klatch’! As no gavel was available, John tapped on his coffee mug! That did the trick! Here’s wishing everyone a happy, safe, and healthy Thanksgiving! It will look different this year, but thanks be to God, we all seem to be doing okay! See you on November 30th, via Zoom!
