It was lovely to gather in the still-lighted evening at The Redwood! After greetings from Brenda Keith, we found the dining room arranged differently for our Rotary Jeopardy night. Seventeen members were joined by four on Zoom. Guests included soon-to-be members Craig and Kristin Smith (Parker's parents) and Paul Harvey from the Canandaigua Rotary.

 

After the Pledge led by President Liz, we joined Jack to sing God Bless America. David shared a famous quote by Maya Angelou: "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

 

Sue passed out posters for the Naples Trout Derby to be distributed with donation requests to local businesses.

 

Jack asked for a moment of silence in remembrance of long time Rotarian, Bill Cooper, who passed away on 2/20/24 at age 99. Bill's obituary can be found on Legacy.com as William A. Cooper Jr. in Woodbridge, CT.

Bill's family plans to have a gathering of friends here in Naples in the near future.

 

Paul Harvey joined us to announce a fundraiser for Canandaigua Rotary to support their Rotary Scholarships for Canandaigua Academy seniors. It's a Bowl-A-Thon at Roseland Bowl, Sunday March 24th at 4:15 pm. Liz and Clyde encourage everyone to join them there!

 

Our program tonight was Rotary Jeopardy. Thanks to Liz, Patrice and Bo for putting the answers together on the Jeopardy Board! Our tables were labeled #2,3,4 with five or six people on each team. A cute little bell sat on each table to help with ringing in with the questions. Categories were: Meetings, Social, Experiences, Membership, Leadership and Service. Each category could win 100 to 500 "dollars" for the team. Team #2 started strong, with Team #3 excelling at ringing the bell in Jack's hand! Team #4 was quiet for awhile but jumped in eventually. In the end, Team #3 had 3700 points, Team #4 had 1500 and Team #2 had 700! The Final Jeopardy topic was: Presidents: who said "Life is more interesting on the other side of YES". All of the teams wagered zero and no one had the correct question: who is Stephanie Urchick, the RI President- Elect! Winning Team #3 included Jack, Alan, Jo, Laurie, Wayne and guest Paul! They were awarded  medals and appear in the photo attached. Congrats!

 

The Ace of Hearts totaled $80. Alan had the ticket but alas, picked the Queen of Spades. Happy Bills went to the fun of Rotary Jeopardy, our visitor from Canandaigua, and David's new great niece! Also mentioned was the anniversary of the Naples Rotary Club, founded on February 10th, 1939! We were sponsored at that time by the Rotary Club of Canandaigua.
