One would have thought it was a continuation of "V-3" this evening, at The Redwood! As we entered the dining room, we noticed that each table was decorated with bowls of sweet treats, compliments of Our Sweet Sherry, who enjoys making everyone feel special! Another added feature was seeing so many members along with seven lovely guests!

President Tom opened the meeting, inviting us to join him in saying The Pledge. John F. chose God Bless America to lead us in song. Steve R. gave the Blessing, thanking The Lord for our being able to be a part of this wonderful, unique club. He also asked The Lord's Blessing upon us, as we care for. and serve others. 

Tonight's guests were announced by our Lovely Laurie, who added a special adjective before each one's name! We 29 members enjoyed the company of Dan and Karen, Kathleen, Sharon, Michelle, Phoebe and Hjanne.

We sang a Happy Birthday Song to Michelle, who has an upcoming birthday, along with John F., whose actual birthday is on Valentine's Day! We thanked Suzanne for bringing along some more of her delicious cookies. Hjanne also had some more of her yummy cookies for folks who had ordered!

Judy announced that there were materials available for us to make a Valentine, or two, for a Vet if we wished. Naples Rotary always remembers the Vets for Valentine's Day.

John F. talked briefly about the 8th Annual Vintage, Vines, and Valentines . It was the best yet with nearly 190 people doing the "tasteful journey!" There were 10 stops along the way, for people to enjoy. The Chocolate Cake Contest was really a "hit!" It was truly a "Nice Break" in the middle of the Winter! Many Rotarians were there to help, as well!

Pres. Tom reviewed the Club Calendar. The remainder of February includes a Board Meeting and New Member Bios, (Andy, Marianna and Nardine), on 2/17. On 2/24, it will be a Social Hour for members.

"Rotary Connects The World is the theme for this year," announced Pres. Tom, as he introduced tonight's special guests. Dan and Karen Robinson were here to tell us a bit about something that they are very passionate about: Naples Hospeace House.

Dan and Frank each told us what Hospeace House means to them, and how we can make an impact on its success as well. I am reminded of a Rotary Theme a few years back, that said, "Be A Gift To The World." Indeed, the workers and volunteers who help at HH are truly gifts to our community, and to the families they serve! What better connection could there be?

Dan was first to speak, and with feeling in his voice, he told us about Hospeace House itself. It is located on Co. Rd. 33, and it is an independent Comfort Care Facility that can serve two residents at a time. Families of the residents are able to stay in the upstairs apartment. There is no cost to the families and residents, as HH is funded entirely by donations! One of the biggest fundraisers for HH each year, is the Monte Carlo Night.

Dan was not asking for money tonight, however. He was asking for volunteers. At present, there are about 50 volunteers, but more are needed so that HH can be sustainable. Dan encouraged people to "sign up" to volunteer. One can shadow a more experienced volunteer in order to receive "training." Jennifer Emmons, the Director at HH, and Sherie Heins are both wonderful sources of help! "Sherie will work with you, and make you feel comfortable," said Dan!

Frank spoke next, and he spoke from an experiential standpoint. He told of his personal encounters with some specific residents (without revealing specific identities), saying it was both "entertaining and exhilarating"! "We become their family," said Frank, "And we help them go through their journey."

Dan showed us a short video that encompassed all the love and caring that can be found at HH. Hopefully, tonight's presentation will have encouraged some more members to volunteer.

As you can imagine, a plethora of Happy Bills poured forth in appreciation of the program, and all that Hospeace House does for others. (Judy shared how kind everyone there was to Marian.) We were pleased with how well Vintage, Vines, and Valentines went last Saturday. There were a few missed meetings. Dan, Lauren, Marianna, Andy, Adam, and Blanche. Tom was glad that it would soon be Michelle's Birthday! Pastor Robin was glad to be here tonight! Skip and Judy were thinking about Charlie on the Swim Team!

The Fifty-Fifty was at $74.00. Michelle drew Karen's Ticket, #642. Karen drew the Ace of Diamonds. The Win-Win was about HH. It was founded in 2003. Its first President was Ed Joseph. There were two Rotary Moments. Brenda shared a memory of when she was in training to be a caregiver. Sherry gave a big "thank you" to all!
