It's Cindy here, filling in for Patrice and Bo while they travel to visit family. My apologies for my tardiness in getting this report out to all. I'm finally back on my feet and took full advantage of a very busy schedule last week.
September is here and we started the month with our annual Fall Steak Dinner hosted at the VFW with a delicious variety of dish-to-pass offerings! Cindy greeted 29 members and 5 guests ready to socialize and enjoy Rotary hospitality.
After reciting the pledge, Liz shared some announcements while we awaited the chefs Bill and Marty with the steaks. The September birthdays belong to Tony, Blanche and Micah. Anniversary greetings go to Skip and Judy and Liz and Clyde. Rotary Lite was scheduled for Wednesday 9/13 at 6pm at Brews & Brats. World Polio Day is October 24th, also at B&B and will be broadcast to other clubs in our district.
Grape Festival is approaching quickly and volunteers are needed for set-up Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Please come out to help if you can! The porch at Memorial Town Hall has been repaired and is safe for the Festival!
Jack is interested in taking over as chair of the District Golf Tournament after years of service by Avon Rotary. If we will help, he would try to secure moving the tourney to Reservoir Creek in September next year.
Our Rotary Exchange student Giovanna joined us for dinner. She spoke about her first week of school in Naples. She loves Naples and school was really good. People are kind and she's grateful for the welcome she has had. Her favorite class so far is government!
After dinner, we had an induction of two new members: David Dial and Liz Bailey. President Liz reviewed the Rotary 5 Avenues of Service and reminded us all that "spare moments are the gold dust of life". David and Liz received their pins and membership info from their sponsors, Nancy and John.
Next, the Robert Allen Award was presented to Past President John French! This award is in honor of the first president of Naples Rotary and is voted on by the membership of our club. Sherry shared in the honor by placing the pin on John's collar.
We ended the evening by thanking: Skip for organizing the dinner, Bill and Marty for cooking and for the service of the VFW bartender.
See you at the Grape Festival!
