It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood again today! We gathered at the Redwood - 18 Naples Rotarians and three guests. Sue introduced our speaker Kelly Fisher from Victor, Albie's brother David and Florida Rotarian Chip Weismiller.
President Jack led the Pledge and we sang It's a Grand Old Flag to celebrate Flag Day yesterday. Our inspiration was "Doing something nice for someone right when they need it the most is the true meaning of timely kindness."
Announcements: Our next Presidents Carrie and Judy are circulating a survey, online or on paper that was distributed today. * Dues are due before the end of June. They are $150 per year or $75 for six months in June and December. * The Gavel Dinner is Monday 6/29 at 5:30pm at Reservoir Creek Pavilion. Skip is taking reservations and payments, $30 per person. * Rotary Night at the Redwings and the District Changeover Dinner is on Friday 7/3 at 4:30pm - picnic and game for $36, game only for $13 at 6pm. Reservation info in the District Grapevine. * On July 4th we are invited to join Canandaigua Rotary for the celebration on Main Street. We can join to sing It's a Grand Old Flag at Commons Park next to Dick Anthony at 9:45am. * Charlie, Grady, Matt and Colin thanked us for sponsoring them in the Camp O Golf tournament Saturday. * Denise brought us extra cupcakes from the Bill Vierhile 100th birthday party on Saturday. Yum!
Kelly Fisher is the Executive Director of Girls on the Run of Greater Rochester, an organization started in Rochester in 2010 and serving Monroe, Ontario, Wayne and Livingston Counties. The mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Girls are in 3rd to 12th grade, a time when their self confidence drops and bullying contributes to sadness or hopelessness at a rate double that of boys. GOTR uses a life skills curriculum to build meaningful relationships, promote personal improvement and create a positive space where every girl feels free to be themselves. Girls learn to manage emotions, resolve conflict, make good decisions, to help others and increase physical activity. Core Values include leading with an open heart and assuming positive intent, standing up for themselves, embracing differences, expressing joy and optimism and gratitude and seeing power and responsibility in decision making. GOTR has 80 sites with 1300 girls participating each year. Coaches number 300 and are volunteers. The program is eight to 10 weeks in spring and fall and are located in schools, parks, churches and rec centers - wherever the coach can bring them together. They meet twice a week for 1-2 hours. At the end of the season there is a 5K race at MCC. Each team has 8-20 girls with at least 2 coaches. Each girl has a running buddy for safety and motivation! Naples had a team in 2022 but it takes volunteer coaches to keep it going! Kelly hopes to bring the program back here in the near future!

Happy Bills went to Jack and Sharon's trip to the Yankees game in Toronto with their grandchildren - they won! There was also a family dance recital and graduation. * Many thanks to Kelly for the great program! * Fond memories of 64 year Rotarian Bill Vierhile and the spunk of his wife Hope. * Thanks to Denise for the cupcakes. * Alan and Kristie enjoyed Hickory Hill campground in their first camping experience. * Healing thoughts are sent to Nancy as she moves to rehab with her broken shoulder and humerus. * Happy Father's day to all fathers, especially Kevin! Their daughter and family will be visiting soon. * Chloe has been hired as the NCS occupational therapist! Several Alliet family members are here for a reunion. * John and Sherry hope to be home by the end of the week! Wishing them safe travels!
Jack's Rotary Moment was visiting Nancy at FFTH. Despite an unfortunate fall, she was in good spirits and looking forward to starting rehab. We send her our best wishes for a speedy recovery!
