President's Report 02.11.21

Hi Everyone,

Hopefully this report will not vanish into the ether as happened yesterday.

We can now have 40 people at our meetings from this week. We barely made 20 this week and I think we need to get all together again for camaraderie and feeling involved. Zoom will still run for those who need it. Only people with 2 COVID-19 shots can attend still however.

Ken Taylor's resignation as treasurer and 6 months leave of absence was approved last night at a board meeting, and David Pyke has bravely stepped into that role pro tem; Many thanks David.

John Egan is taking orders for the Xmas cakes this year; let him know ASAP if you want some; payment will be after the costs have been paid for them. Geoff Breust talked about the formation of our club and the huge amount of monies we have raised as a single club over that time till now. One of the ef-pos machines is faulty so is going for repairs; hopefully ready for the next Saturday market. Also at the huge success of Rotary in removing polio from all the world except Afghanistan and northern Pakistan.

Have a good week all and I would like to see as many faces at our next meeting ( on the 9th October) as possible.

Our Meeting Nov 2nd 2021

President Richard opened the meeting with Rotary Grace and the Loyal Toast.

Today was the first day that we could all get together again, but as we had not really gotten into stride, we had a Hillis Day. This gave us a chance to catch up with members and just chat. We really need more of these.

Today was Melbourne Cup day.

Michael Knight and Neil Pinto ran the sweeps. They were well supported!!

Geoff Breust presented Rotary Information today.

He spoke today on the origin of Wollundry Club. It was chartered by South Wagga in 1978, with the first President being Graham Hornibrook. We still have several charter members.

It has been a hugely successful club. Initially the club ran a book fair, but at the initiative of Leon Flegg and John Skeers we began the Sunday Markets. When they finally finished we had donated some $2.3m to the community. This event not only raised money but gave an opportunity to get to know the members adding to the success of the club.

Geoff then outlined the success Rotary has had in eradicating Polio. Most of our members will remember the disease being eradicated in Australia when we were children. But that crippling disease was still rampant in the World until Rotary began the initial mass vaccination. Now it is found in Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

Rick Priest reported on Laurie Blowes' progress. He is home but recovering slowly. Laurie was really happy to think that the members would think of him and really appreciated the card.

Dell and he have put their home on the market.

A little later in the meeting David Benn informed us that Rick himself had recently lost his sister to Parkinsons. Our sincere condolences to you Rick and your family.

Gerry Gerlach reminded us of the Farmers Run for Resilience that is happening at Mangoplah this Sunday. They are seeking volunteers to help marshal the event. If you can be there by 6am Sunday morning please let Gerry know.

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP
"Honorary" is one of the two types of membership a person may have in a Rotary club. This type of membership is the highest distinction a Rotary club can confer and is exercised only in exceptional cases to recognize an individual for unusual service and contributions to Rotary and society. Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club, do not hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues.
Many distinguished heads of state, explorers, authors, musicians, astronauts and other public personalities have been honorary members of Rotary clubs, including King Gustaf of Sweden, King George VI of England, King Badouin of Belgium, King Hassan III of Morocco, Sir Winston Churchill, humanitarian Albert Schweitzer, Charles Lindbergh, composer Jean Sibelius, explorer Sir Edmund Hillary, Thor Heyerdahl, Thomas Edison, Walt Disney, Bob Hope, Dr. Albert Sabin, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and many of the presidents of the United States. Truly, those selected for honorary membership are those who have done much to further the ideals of Rotary.

The importance of turning up to a meeting.

Rotary is about fellowship. If you can possibly attend please do so. Great friendships are made and maintained here, and we want to see you as often as possible. Circumstances dictate that it is often just not possible to get to the meeting, but when you can, please do.

Secretary's Report 02.11.21

Hi all,

Two seconds in the Melbourne Cup sweep, no shout in that Bennie. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to Michael and Neil for

running the sweeps.

Treasurer Ken Taylor has resigned as treasurer and taken 6 months Leave of Absence.

All the best to Ken for his future post Treasurer. Thank you to David Pyke for taking on the Treasurer's role at short notice.

Thank you to Peter Wilesmith for taking on the Treasurer's role for the year 2022-23. Pykie will be an excellent mentor for Peter and help him transition into the Treasurer's role.

The Board last night passed a motion requiring all Club COVID-19 plans to reflect the requirement that all members, guests, vendors and patrons have double vaccination status prior to entering meetings, markets, festivals and other social events; all future plans are to reflect Health Authority requirements of the day.

Next week we will be back to the 2sqm rule, plenty of room to accommodate a substantial physical presence at Romano's.

Double vaccination and check in rule will still apply.

John Egan is currently taking orders for Christmas cakes. Orders in early please.

Sympathy to Ric Priest on the loss of his sister.
