President John had a very big meeting. After asking the members to observe a minutes silence for the victims of the Siege in Sydney, he went on to welcome our many visitors.
They were Travis Downey, guest of Ken Taylor, Richard Rossiter ,guest of Chris Metcalfe and Paul Reardon, also get guest of Chris Metcalfe. We also had our own Franzi, Stephen Moore and Cain Almanci. This was a large group and we would also have the pleasure of inducting two of them as new members later in the meeting.
|
President John was happy to present Rob Fuller with a recognition badge for introducing a new member. |
|
Franzi told us of her wonderful trip to Kununura with Geoff Hamilton and his family. They flew low over Uluru in the new jet which was a highlight, as was landing at the Alice on the way home. President John then presented Franzi with her very own Club Dinner Badge.
|
|
Next on the list was the induction of two new members, Peter Green and Travis Downie. Travis was introduced to Wollundry by Ken Taylor, while Peter was introduced by Craig Bromley. From their acceptance speeches they will fit right in, acerbic wit and all.

President John then read a letter of resignation from George Thomas. George feels it is time to lower the average age of Wollundry, and he will be sorely missed for his work, wit and the puns (well maybe not the puns!). But the District and the wider world of Rotary Australia will miss his great input, and wisdom. We are very sorry to see him go and wish him safe travelling!!. |
|
Ken Cook will be an apology next week. His daughter, Belinda is marrying her man Stephen Watson in Dubai. Belinda was an exchange student to Brazil some 12 years ago.
Congratulations and we hope all goes to plan for everyone.

The Board and The markets Committee have submitted proposals.
This is the Markets Committee proposal that was presented and discussed.
"After considerable thought of the boards proposal to be put to the members at Tuesday's meeting, I am not in favor for the motion.
Yes we need to do something to revitalize the markets. Unfortunately Council will NOT allow us to place the shipping container on the Tarcutta St site. This was confirmed by Amanda Grey (W W C C) this morning.
I would appreciate your feed back on the following proposal which I am prepared to move at Tuesday meeting, with the committee support.
1. Markets continue on a monthly bases in the Myer car park. Say the 3 rd Sunday of each month.
2. Submit a D A to W W C C to relocate the markets to the riverside precinct on completion stage one (June/ July 2015) including approval of the shipping container on the site.
3. Once approved, relocate the the riverside precinct and rebranding the markets as Riverside Markets.
The boards proposal to run 4 theme markets a year would be very costly to advertise and promote. e.g. Advertising & promotion cost for the Spring & Christmas market is around $3,000.00. Under this proposal, it is fragmented and dosn't offer any consistence for vendors or patrons who support the markets.
Inducations from council are that stage one of the riverside precinct will be completed in June/July 2015."
The Club set down to discuss the future direction of the Sunday Markets. After frank and open exchange of ideas it was decided to begin the New Year as a monthly market on the Myer site, and to move to the River Precinct as soon as possible.
There were several suggestions, one in particular proffered by Andy Irvine, which would have run both markets together, using then precincts of the Council Chambers.(see photo below)
President John warmly acknowledged the work and input of the Sunday Market Committee, and especially the chair, Colin Mercer.

Sunday Market. This was our Christmas market and it was a great success. We had nearly 800 people through the gate, and there were just under 100 stalls. The total take was $2000. Mark Sayer was the OIC. There were several members who assisted, including two at least who had worked on the Saturday Market the day before. Here is part of Mark's report.
"As stand in OIC swapping for Richard Braid the previous week, I arrived at 6.30am to find the B team
of Col Mercer, Chris Metcalf, James Hamilton, Geoff Breust and Mal Robertson already having
everything arranged and organised. Naturally I will take all the credit for that.
I provided perfect weather with sunny skies commencing but when it became a bit hotter, I supplied
adequate cloud cover to keep the temperature at a comfortable level.
My A team of John Mason, Pat Parnell, Neil Pinto, Alan Eldridge, Greg O'Hare and James Ross
attended to signs and teardrops and then proceeded to keep the 85 stall holders entirely happy with
the exception of 2 stallholders who arrived with oversized marquees despite being told several times
by Col Mercer that the stall sites were 2.4m wide. Naturally I will blame this on the previous
administrators, certainly not this party's( team's) fault. Julian Beuckers turned up again at the market to assist as part of his community service requirements of his Duke of Edinburgh Award course through TRAC.
A brilliant ploy by myself was to provide Santa at 10am (thank you Rick Priest). Despite it being
organised by the market committee, I will take the credit for this success also.
With the camera shy Col Mercer disappearing when the TV arrived, the party (team) decided that
with my unparalleled charisma and leadership, I should take the helm and be interviewed to explain
this party' (clubs') policies and achievements. However before I could be interviewed, back bencher
Alan Eldridge had hijacked the microphone and no doubt explained to the TV viewing public the
benefits of listing their properties with Eldridge Real Estate. My recommendation for sanctions
should be applied for the reckless behavior of the honorable Member for Flying, Mr Eldridge at
the next Party (club) meeting.
After inheriting the previous administrations float of only $100, we contributed to the club's budget
as follows:
Stalls $5870, Advance bookings $560,Trestles $576, Power $10, Insurance $205 and Gate $885.65 to
provide a surplus to be added to the bottom line of the clubs budget, a Conkey Record for this fiscal
year of $2106.65"

Saturday Market . Another top day for Wollundry. Jim Gibson, teamed with Pat Ingram ran a highly efficient crew. Jonty Shuter, Ken Taylor, Jeremy Reithmuller, Hugh Campbell, Greg Conkey, John Egan, Andrew Irvine, as well as Chris Metcalfe, Neil Pinto, David Pyke, James Ross and Pres John were all on deck and had the site prepared in record time. The Barbeque was fired up and sold out right on 11.30. The total banked for the day was $2400. Boutique beers at the Tree of Knowledge were a highlight Thanks Jim!!
