The President's Report
A smaller but no less enthusiastic turn-out of members to the meeting this week! Thanks to those that attended.
 
There are only a handful of members who have yet to pick up their new club shirt and jackets. Contact myself or Phil McIntosh if you don't get to meetings often and would like to grab them.
 
The new shirts are part of the new/revitalised club image that we are working on, so please wear only these shirts at club events, even the markets. A suggestion has been made that at the markets, we should also wear high vis vests, so that members are easy to spot. I'll take this up with the membership committee, but that seems to make sense.
 
A very big thankyou to Neil and Marg Schirmer for hosting the pizza and wine night last week. It was well attended and a good night was had by all. Thanks also to the members and partners who assisted in the setup and serving on the night. Thanks again to Neil and Marg, a job well done!!

At this week's meeting I floated the idea of having a membership drive social night in the near future. It would be a simple event with finger food at a nice venue. ALL members will be expected to attend and to bring at least one guest that might be a prospect for membership, with an emphasis on younger people and women. We could have a couple of members speak about the benefits of Rotary and the club's efforts to connect more with local community projects. The membership committee can consider this at their next meeting.

Our  Meeting March 12th 2024
President Darren opened the meeting without ringing the bell and welcomed everyone 
He had just completed the RYPEN train weekend and was very impressed by the young adults who had come to be team leaders. "the growth was amazing!"
the new apparel is now with us. After much discussion it was concluded that the dark blue will probably be the official uniform for all events.This will mean that we have to have a second outfit.

Pres Darren also reiterated the vision for the Club. The aging demographic, the fact that we undermarket the club, the perceived problems with our market all came into focus.
There is also to be a new website with a link for membership.
It was a respectful, thoughtful presentation that rekindled the need for the Club to take notice.
The Wagga Aero Club is flying to WA. There's a  seat available if you would like to take it on. It should be a great trip.

The Week that Was
A wonderful night at the Schirmers. Neil and Margaret hosted about 40 people to a Pizza and Sweet night at their home overlooking the city; a beautiful spot. Neil showed his cooking skills as lovely pizzas kept turning up on the table. The desserts that followed were just superb . A great night and our sincere thanks for the hospitality!
 
 
 
PP Geoff Breust very quickly pulled together an event, An Evening with Fiona McDonald.  Fiona was in the area launching her new book. Fiona is a much published author, and has herself been subjected to Domestic Violence This event was meant to highlight again the effects of Domestic Violence and she was supporting Leah Anderson who operates a help group known as STEPS. Leah has been guest speaker at the club
It was an eye-opening session. Geoff is to be congratulated on his efforts to bring this to the Club.
An auction at the end of the evening brought the total raised to some $1400. A great effort.

The Saturday Market

Comments, from Vendors, 
  • All like the Civic Precinct Park area 
  • The layout is good with room for more vendors 
  • All vendors really appreciate the use of Rotary marquees as this allows vendors to bring more stock 
  • Most times marquees have to be loaded first so everything then has to unloaded before they can erect their marquee
  • Overall, the Vendors were very happy
Other considerations, 
  • $8.00 egg and bacon roles – lots of complaints – I think $6.50 is plenty – WE ARE A SERVICE CLUB!!!  
  • Gates are to be manned by a minimum of 2 – We need to be aware not to leave one person one the gate – we did have a couple of issues – new member – being able to go to the toilet or grab a snack or drinks    
  • Members are responsible for arranging their own replacements with other members and confirm these at the meeting prior to each market
