President John Ferguson called the meeting to order at 12.30 pm and called on Jeremy Reithmuller to lead us in Rotary Grace. This was followed by the usual toast to The Queen and People of Australia.
President John then welcomed our visitors: George Weston from Leeton Rotary Club, Philip and Deidre Tome from Kooringal and Sunrise respectively, Trevor Urquhart from SVDP, Jackie Stumpel, (Franzi's Counsellor), Sandra Legge, Margaret Priest and our Exchange Student Franzi.
President John reminded members that next week's meeting is a vocational visit to TAFE. There will be no meeting at the Commercial Club next week.
There will be a combined Board Meeting next Monday at the Commercial Club at 5.15 p.m.

Our Guest Speaker was introduced by David Hodge. William continued with that introduction, and we learned that he was the Charter President of the Griffith Rotaract Club, and ex officio, the District Rotaract Representative. Rotaract was active in district 9700, and Wollundry Rotary started and sponsored a club in the 1980's. Our most senior members would remember being rostered to attend Rotaract along with other club responsibilities, and then claim a make-up for that attendance. The last club, in Parkes, survived until 2006.
William told us of his introduction to the World of Rotary, initially through acceptance into RYLA, in North Sydney. He feels that a local connection through Yenda, his hometown shared with a Sydney Rotarian gained him the chance. From RYLA, the move to Rotaract at University was a logical progression, and after graduation, back in Griffith in June 2014, William found like minded friends and set up a community based club. Four prospective members attended the first meeting, and a facebook post attracted another three. By Christmas the group had grown to 25, when the conducted their first project - "adopt a farmer" to provide assistance to drought stricken landholders in central Queensland.
A fundraising project last week raised $1000, which was used to provide a Shelter Box, one of seven purchased nationally by Rotaract clubs.
The flow, from school aged interact clubs, to Rotaract, appealing to 18 - 30 YO, and then into Rotary is obvious to William, and he was passionate about the path of young people moving on from one stage and proving ripe pickings for the next. He also pointed out that RYLA is a fertile enlistment tool for membership in Rotaract.
William's enthusiasm for service work, for community involvment and for Rotary was evident, and his ability to motivate his peers impressed all of us at the meeting. He has also run for Parliament, as a labour candidate in Griffith for the 2011 State Election and was recognised with an award for his work within Young Labour.

James Ross took the parade and whipped some discipline into David Benn - He was late, and on the phone.
This sergeant has campaigned to promote apologies when you can't make a meeting. There are improvements noted, but not yet up to James' expectations, and the problem is that until names are named, the fine box will not register any takings. The ball is in your court, James.
A district conference is being arranged for next April, and to market the event, we need a "sexy, catchy name". James put out a call for help - any suggestions. Then we canvassed collective names for groups of people, but few fines. More time was needed, but the collective noun for a group of Rotarians is obviously a "ring"
Cross Fines were forthcoming. James paid for ignorance of the Conference timing. Michael Georgiou occupied top half of front page of today's Daily Advertiser, barely a week after the story of his van igniting at Silvalite.

Wollundry Rotary is now so involved in Catering that we have established our own egg ring manufacturing facility. This has proven valuable at Farmers Markets. Any member with experience in animal husbandry and nutrition in the pig industry is urged to drop a resume in to Neil Pinto.

Hugh Campbell led the team at the Farmers Market for May, with support from Ken Taylor from the market Committee, and a team comprising Geoff Breust, Pat Ingram, Travis Downie, David Pyke, Jonty Schuter, Peter Green Frank Fuller, and Doug Sutton. The weather was threatening, overcast early, intermittent drizzle, with some patches of sunlight, wet tents and finally a drying breeze just in time for the packup. The forecast alone was enough to trigger a spate of no shows among the stallholders, with eight failing to arrive at the market.
A supplementary group provided catering support - Michael Knight, Wal Paton and John Ireland with help from Sandra Legg, especially in the initial burst of setting up. The cycle club were unable to man their stall for this market so Wollundry Rotary members took up the tongs.
Neil Pinto arrived early to offer advice, and delivered some equipment and a few egg rings that he had made the previous evening. Industrial Espionage has since revealed the production process for the rings, and the photo above provides verification.
A cash reconciliation is as follows:

Hugh was concerned that an amount of $100 was missing, with receipts exceeding the cash on hand by that amount, and reported this at our meeting. This has been audited, and an error in addition has now been detected, and receipts now balance with cash. The only problem remaining for Hugh to deal with relates to Foreign Currency - Singapore 20c

Could James have claimed a make up?
Food and Wine festival, or Cider and Cycle festival are projects of Wollundry Rotary, and could benefit enormously from a better understanding of successful community events. Perhaps James could mount a test case, and report back on the outcome.
