reported on the success of president John at the combined Rotary Sports night hosted by Kooringal Rotary at the RDA complex. We were represented by President John, David Benn and Michael Knight. For First prize John received a packet of German biscuits.
The games were held on a rotation of six events of 15minutes duration one of which included the meal. There were quoits, Frisbees, Pitch n Putt and basket Ball events.
Next week John Grey, Jim Gibson and David Benn will be competing in the Rotary over 60s and 70s cricket in Dandenong.
John Egan reported that he and James Hamilton were active in submitting DA to Council for relocating Sunday Markets to the old Gas works site with room for the toilets and the container.
Sergeant
Short notice fill in for the day was Laurie Blowes bringing his intended piece in a week early. Laurie showed us the photos of WW1 anniversary installation “River of Blood” at the Tower of London. Some 888,000 red ceramic poppies planted in the moat.
He then went on to talk about the Australian Light Horse and their saddles and how he used one when winning a 200 km Cobb and Co endurance ride at Binya some years ago when he was both younger and fitter.
According to Google ,he rode Karakatana Kyzyl 200km in 13 hours and 22 seconds on 1st September 1990. That Paper clipping he showed us was 24 years old.
Two lucky (hopefully) members, Tim McGillcuddy and James Ross found a TAB trifecta bet ticket under their seats.
Darren Wallace told us about the “Away” performance at the Civic Theatre. The play is set in 1968 and revolves around 3 Australian families.
Darren is in the cast by the way.
Darren also called for volunteer bus drivers and supervisors for the RYPEN weekend at Borambola which unfortunately is clashing with the Hillis sailing extravaganza in Sydney.
The lucky door prize was won first draw by number 12 this week who is Greg Conkey.
Paul Milde, in his role as Secretary, announced member commitments and Rosters.
