The club welcomed District governor John Glassford to our club meeting. DG John met with Board members prior to club meeting to discuss draft Club Strategic Plan and then District 9700 strategic directions and then rotary international strategic directions.
The board will discuss the draft club strategic plan on the 16thJuly and then the plan will be circularised to all members.
Details were given on the 2018 Australian & New Zealand conference to be held on the 14thto 16thSeptember 2018 in Hobart Tasmania.
Draft copy of the club’s committee structure for 2018/9 circularised to all members for perusal. The aim is for each member to be on at least 2 club committees so as to be involved in the operation of your club and your service to the community. If you have any major concerns please contact me. If you would like to be involved in more committees, please let me know. It is requested that the chair or his delegate of each committee provide an induction for new committee members and it is desirable that each member on a committee is given a portfolio.
Annual subscriptions are now due. Adrian will be forwarding invoices for subs in the near future.
Club meeting on the 17thJuly is ladies day as Jonty Shuter will be giving a presentation on recent China & Tibet trip.
The meeting commenced very well, on time and to the tune of Rotary Grace.
Newly elected President James introduced our guests, DG John Glassford and his wife Susan, and Maria Egan, guest of PDG John.
PP Paul reminded us of Lillier Lodge cooking, and has several volunteers to go with him. It is a very good night.
Susan Glassford drew the raffle, and the bottle of wine went to Maria E. Richly deserved.
Bob Willis is on the Foundation Committee and urged the members to put in an extra $50 to become a Centurion. He has a calculating money box which accepts $2 coins. It takes a very short time to collect 25 of these, and you just don't miss it. But the good that small change does is enormous.
PP Frank Fuller was Sergeant this week.
He was in top form.DG John paid up because of Susan's black eye, Adrian was chipped for his hurried departure last week with all the money, John Gray was simply mentioned, Stuart Heriot, Ward Gaiter, and Tim Hutchings were all nabbed because they were new, and Michael Georgiou was accused and convicted for bribery. Seems he was allowed to tell a joke if he passed over some cash!
And of course our unshaven President was paraded!

PP Rick Priest took us on a short trip to Mannus. He highlighted the problems that some communities have with technology, not understanding how to get the best from the gifts and work done by worldwide clubs. He was urging the club to do follow up reports.
Rotary International has addressed this situation, and will not make grants available if the project is not what the people want or need, nor if it is not sustainable.
That said, the problem still persists and the answer is education.
Our guest speaker today was the newly appointed DG, John Glassford. John is from Coolamon Club and was born to priviledge in Kenya.
He was educated at prestigious schools in England, but his heart is in Africa.
In his address he acknowledged the part Rotary has played in helping Africa, and has said that he took on the role as a way of saying thank you on the African's behalf.
Our new World President is Barry Rassin from the Bahamas who, John says has a great sense of humour and will do well.
John aims to strengthen clubs and support them in any way that he can. He wants to see an increase in the humanitarian work that we can do, and wants to get the message out to the wider community. To that end John asked that we use the new modern logo, which our club does, and perhaps be able to fly the Rotary flag, metaphorically and in reality. Quoting Simon Sinek, he asked us what our "Why" was, and then explained the link to natural chemicals which made us feel good about ourselves and within ourselves. Endorphine, Seratonin, Dopamine ,Oxytocin all play a role in the Why. Watch the video..its really worth while.
John concluded by telling us what he had lined up for his Conference in Griffith. A feature will be the bike ride circling all the towns and villages in the district, starting at and finishing in Griffith. He will be supporting Legacy and has plans for a time capsule. The original Australian Iron Lung will also be there, as will the first woman vice president of Rotary, If you stay for Sunday you could win a trip. Should be an interesting year!
