Sunday Market Report
OIC Craig Bromley, Team: James Hamilton, John Daly, Rob Pearson, Col Mercer and John Gray.
Col Mercer showed up as undercover boss but was soon discovered. Rob Pearson arrived with a hangover after his daughter's wedding yesterday. Reasonably good market - Nice level of enquiry for Christmas Market on 14th December. Stall holder Heath left early and did not pay. Stall holder Atwell collapsed and ambulance called to take her to hospital. Possible heat exhaustion with weather at 40 degrees C. There were 32 stalls.
Financials: Gate $372.90
Stalls $250.00
Advanced Bookings $110.00
Trestles $2.00
Insurance $70.00
Total $804.90

The numbers are:

Rotary Information:
John Gray took us back to April 1986 when he was instructed by then President Ron Bragg that he and his wife should host inbound exchange student Lori Steiner from Canada. The Grays had a baptism of fire in parenting courtesy of Rotary Youth Exchange and to this day visiting Lori's family in Canada has one password "Wollundry". She has never forgotten "her" host Rotary Club.
Rotary Fruit Cakes
Paul Milde send an order form around for Rotary Fruit Cakes - still only $15 with $2.20 to Rotary Foundation on Wollundry's behalf.
Phil McIntosh set up a time lapse video recording which I think was brought in by James Ross produced by Aurenco who built the new railway bridge. The video showed what can be done over a 4 day New Year weekend with good planning.
Sergeant Geoff Hamilton
proceeded to issue fines on the latecomers and on the quality of haircuts (that was Silas Darby's Domain) and Rob Fuller for being a poor mentor to his newly sponsored club member.
Geoff then had the hide to issue various fines to those attending the sailing weekend when he wasn't even there. His victims were Phil McIntosh, Neil Pinto, Kevin Moffat, John Ireland, John Egan, and Chris Metcalf. He hit John Smith for his new aeroplane and then Smithy was hit again with a cross fine from Alan Eldridge because his new plane was not faster than Alan's. Somebody else cross fined Craig Bromley for adding Christmas Market Advanced bookings to the weekends Sunday Market tally. (Extremely allowable I would have thought).
Projects Committee
Doug Conkey presented a list of project donations considered worthy by the Projects Committee and James Hamilton seconded his proposal. The Donations were unanimously endorsed by the club.
RYPEN
Darren Wallace thanked the helpers for the RYPEN weekend at Borambola. They were bus drivers John Flynn and George Thomas (to Griffith and Back on Friday and Sunday) and helpers/supervisors Ken Cook and Di, Greg Conkey, and John Hawkins. And the Sport and Rec staff from Borambola. 80 young people sponsored by 20 clubs attended this year.
Future of the Sunday Markets
Col Mercer gave an introductory Committee report about relocation from Myer Carpark to the Playhouse Theatre car park and lawn area. The report is as follows:
As discussed at our committee meeting last week (minutes from JH) it was agreed that we would continue the markets on a weekly basis in the new location (Tarcutta St) under a new banner/name and that every concerted effort would be made to revamp the markets in its new location. Review the markets on a quartly basis as to its success.
Some points the members of the club may not be aware of is:
1. The takings from Sunday markets in the first quarter this year are $7977.15(excluding Insurance) In this period we have had 3 canceled markets and one almost canceled due to weather. Even if this trend continued, the potential revenue would be around $32,000.00.
Is the club prepared to forgo this income?
2. The markets are still being patronized with gate takings on average of $440.00 per market.Keep in mind this was during the winter period.
3. Sunday markets are low risk: i.e. low cost to operate, minimal staff and effort. If a market is canceled it has minimal impact on revenue, where as a major event i.e. Food & Wine would have a major impact on revenue.
4. Once establish in the new location the market could be run by 5 minimizing the work load on members.
5.Sunday Markets gives a great opportunity for fellowship. Get to know your fellow Rotarian, as our regular Tuesday meetings usually have a full agenda.
A short discussion on the ensued and the club resolved to give the new location about 3 months trial before deciding the markets future.
Paul Milde, in his role as Secretary, announced member commitments and Rosters.
